Got a question about DLCs? Read this first!
As quoted from StanceStrife on the official Sleeping Dogs forums: http://forums.sleepingdogs.net/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=5111&sid=2880c592997358f9eca932521c08d43d

I've seen some confusion on how the DLC works in the new Definitive Edition of the game and thought I would put something together to help avoid this. It is different than I have seen in a lot of games, especially the standard edition of Sleeping Dogs. That being said if you would like to find out about the DLC in the game on your own I would suggest you stop reading now and go explore Hong Kong. Trust me, everything is there for the finding! :)

Immersed DLC
Unlike the standard edition of Sleeping Dogs all of the DLC in the Definitive Edition has been made a part of the game. This means that almost all of the DLC needs to be unlocked in the game through game play and is not available from the start. Let's start with the big 4.

Year of the Snake, Nightmare in North Point, Zodiac Tournament and Wheels of Fury.
The last 2, Zodiac Tournament and Wheels of Fury unlock as available missions as you play. For example, you will get a text from Inspector Teng at a certain point letting you know of an illegal fighting ring she found out about. The icon for Zodiac Tournament will then appear on your map where it usually does and you will be able to proceed with playing it.
The first 2, Year of the Snake and Nightmare in North Point are both available from the main menu before you start the game. I haven't completed the Definitive Edition yet so I can't say if these are made available in the main game as well.

SWAT Pack
The SWAT pack, which is the additional cop missions DLC, is also made available as you play. Once you start doing missions for Inspector Teng some of the SWAT pack missions will appear on the map to do. As you progress in the game more of them will become available.

Red Envelope Pack
In the standard edition of Sleeping Dogs all the Red Envelopes were placed at the parking garages through the city. It was nice to be able to get a quick HK$1,000,000 but it was in no way challenging to find. Now they are hidden around the city in different locations.

They do not show up on the mini map.

Street Racer Pack
Like the previous packs these start to become available as you play through the game, the first of which appear on the map after you break into the underground racing scene.

Outfits and Vehicles
Lastly, the rest of the DLC, which are outfits, equipment and vehicles. After the first few missions of the game, once you have free reign of the city, there will be a clothing vendor in the south east corner of the Night Market with a gold icon labeled Legendary Clothing. If you visit him you will be able to buy all the outfits from the DLC with in game money. The vendor also has new unique dialogue for each outfit so it's worth it to check him out.

Vehicles are gradually unlocked as you play through the game.

[Update: Nov 17, 2014] The Monkey King vehicle appears to be tied to the outfit. The police vehicles seem to all be tied in with the police missions on the map.

Hopefully this helps! UFG have definitely made what was previously just menu options and mysteriously appearing content more a part of the game world itself and I hope that they continue to go this route in any future related games! :)

The DLCs containing exp boosts are not included in the Definitive Edition.

So, in other words, in order to experience some of the DLC additions I need to replay through the main game again?

Through parts of the main game, yes. That being said, if you find enough red envelopes to should be able to afford some of the outfits already.

why is it that the exp bosts are not included? i understand they break the game but perhaps enter an option to turn them on/off at the start of the game?

I loved to read that part. Really! Like a lot! I hate when a game offer DLCs and you have them all from the start. Ruins part of the game for me.

Like in a certain racing game, because of the DLC, you will start with more than 20 cars when you shouldn't. So disappoint...

In sum, thank you for this.

I have what I believe to be a genuine question.

I now own Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition. I notice that two of the DLCs, the silver and gold, are not in, so I wanted to buy one. Unfortunately Steam does not allow me because it says I don't have the base version, despite I do have SD:DE.

Can you please advice? Yes, there's "no point" in buying "cheats" but I would like to play the game with the two aforementioned DLC.

The DLC is "rebalanced and properly integrated into the game's story".

oh I'm sorry, Terminus. I think I may need to rephrase the question properly. Please, allow me to apologize profusely for the confusion.

I'm aware that the dev team removed the silver and gold pack from the DLCs included in SD:DE (Sleeping Dogs, Definitive Edition)

What I actually meant (and I hope i don't get misconstrued, since the first post by me was kind of vague, I think?) is that is there any way for us to buy / purchase gold and silver on top of SD:DE (Sleeping Dogs : Definite Edition) if we want to pursue it, or the dev team has made it clear that users can never get gold and silver pack for SD:DE (Sleeping Dogs : Definitive Edition) ?

Hey Spiritsong,

The two booster packs aren't available for the Definitive Edition. As it is a Definitive Edition we didn't want people to feel like they had to pay more (real) money ontop of what they paid for what should be the 'Defintive' Edition if that makes sense? I can certainly understand that some people would have happily paid a little extra for the boosters, but I reckon the majority of people would have dissaproved.

Yeap, it does make sense. Since its the dev's idea that the game is "meant to be played" with this and that DLCs (but minus the gold and silver, which are just boosters anyway) and I do know that you folks re-engineered the game with the intention to define how the game was meant to be played.

Thanks again for the clarification, and for such a good game!

No worries, thanks for understanding. Have fun playing! :)

Are the outfits not seperate anymore? I noticed people saying that they can only put on the full outfits.
