Camera yaw and pitch - what do they mean?

I am playing with mouse and keyboard. I'm having difficulty finding the correct "feel" to the controls. What does camera yaw and pitch actually mean?

AFAIK, it's for moving the camera around when you're not moving or not in combat. "Pitch" is up/down and "yaw" is left/right.

Does anybody else feel like there is some "drifting" when they move the mouse around. Like it doesn't stop immediately when you stop your mouse. It bothers me. I had the same issue in God of War.
