F*** Enduro!
Who was the sadist who decided to include this race in the game? I've tried it at least twenty times already, and the following usually happens: I get thrown from my bike because of some stupid obstacle, the AI somehow magically appears on my back when they've been at least 200 meters behind me for a full minute and a half, or I lose control due in no small part to the poorly thought-out driving mechanics. I know I'm preaching to the choir about this, but it just feels so broken.

The courses and the driving I don't mind so much, because I feel like it's just my fault for being bad, but the races sure could be better. What really feels unfair is that the AI drivers only seem to make mistakes when I'm near them. Otherwise, they are flawlessly keeping pace, no matter what the course is like. That and the fact that they sometimes seem to get impossible speed boosts to pull ahead of me, even when I'm flooring it on a straightaway in the best vehicle available.

I'm guessing part of the problem is that their position on the track is abstracted when they're far away, so they never screw up a turn or bump into each other.

Yeah the driving model in this game is horrible, especially for motorcycles and boats. Not that cars are that much better.

Combined with Underground-style AI rubber-banding it is quite rage-inducing indeed.

The racing sucks, and during it my game freezes, no other time though, otherwise its a good game

1. Make sure you are using the right bike: 1100 NA-R
2. Helps if you know how to ride a bike in real life, to wit: look in the direction you are about to turn into, slow down before beginning a turn, start on the outside of the turn.

It took me a long time to beat too...once I had a huge lead and the game froze near the end where there is the 90 degree turn in the alley with the fence, the game started back up...but it popped me on the other side of the fence!

Why? I mean I agree that racing in this game is pretty bad but... it's not hard, come on.

Doesn't matter what bike you use, just pace yourself. The AI is so terrible you don't need to floor it in order to leave them in the dust. Keeping a steady pace helps reduce crashes.

Sadly I use a keyboard and mouse so I can't really brake or throttle with the level of control that I'd prefer. I'd like to get a controller for it but it's not in the budget right now.

I have both. It makes no difference, the braking and acceleration are equally f*cked for both, and the annoying camera makes smooth steering futile.

It took me a long time to beat Enduro. Part of it is up to luck - if the other drivers poop the bed by getting tangled in multi-driver wrecks you can do really well against them - but the other half is mastering that brake-turn. That is, not the one where you use the 'backward' key to slow down and turn, but the full-on-speedbrake (Space key, I think is the default) to pull one of those skid-turns.

Definitely pick your bike and practice making those full-speed brake-turns outside of a race, but I also got some help by practicing in a car as well first. Cars handle that speedbrake differently than bikes, but just getting used to the skid and timing when to release brake and give it gas to rocket off in your new direction still works the same. Practice the basics in a car, then give a few runs on a bike to feel how it's different, then give it a go.

Wow, a game I don't suck at. I beat Sleeping Dogs five times and each time won Enduro on my first attempt.

Well I finally got the stuff to use a controller with my laptop, and holy crap does it make a difference. I almost beat it this time without crashing through everything in my way.

How are people finding it so difficult? I beat this 1st try on KBM. You just need to make sure you follow the racing line, as you would in any other racing game, take shortcuts when you see them and release the acceleration on corners while turning, then it's a breeze. The only obstacle is dodging traffic if there is any that comes your way, in my race I was miles ahead and never lost my lead after the 20% mark, even got a time that was 40 seconds faster than the 2nd place

Actually you just have to avoid crashing. Sooner or later the AI will fall behind.
Is that the really long race? It kinda pissed me off the first time beacuse i didnt make the jump to the bridge and had to start over but thats the only thing that got in my way. If youre having trouble with that just slow down. I did it with the cop bike too. only one I had.

The secret to racing in SD is being good at breaking/drifting and avoiding mishaps during tight turns.
