Agreed.
But that's just like, your opinion, man.
As is this is mine: I find the mix of seriousness with silliness to be charming. It's part of why I enjoy the Metal Gear series so much. You've got these serious military themed games with some James Bond spy elements, the stakes are high and real, majority of the games deal with pretty dark themes with nuclear warfare, government conspiracies to control all populations, and war crimes. A lot of being based on and exaggerating real world events or potential threats, and then turning it up to 11.
And then you can confuse enemies by playing sound files of your having a hard time in the bathroom to get people to stay away from you. Or find all of the pin-up posters they hide in the games. Dress up as other people as get unexpected reactions. Fight giant walking tanks that roar like dinosaurs, or large automated robots that Moo like cows and excrete white goo from their rear ends in an awkward ritual of cleansing their mechanical fluids of impurities because of reasons similar to when living animals build up lactic acid in their bodies from overworking their muscles.
All the meanwhile you're patting down some guy to see if he has another box of rations for you, or you're making a call to your Medic to ask what your latest catch tastes like.
Suddenly having a Criminal Gang Member who punches people in the face by day and sings karaoke at night, sounds pretty tame and normal. Hardened Criminals can have hobbies too.
