The Ending *Obvious Spoilers Inside*
So I completed game twice the other day.

In once scenario Warren destroyed purgatory and became the solo survivor of a ravaged world. All right, I understand this. I made the bad choice depanding on Devil himself, who would obviously trick me no matter what. I deserved it, but hell that was the better choice compared to what I would go through in next gameplay :

On my second gameplay, I choose to shoot myself in the head and f***k the devils plan as every good guy can. In the end, everyone was saved but me. The world was alive, everyone was happy but hey! Warren was cursed no matter what. There are no happy ending for him and he was a victim all along. The poor, tricked puppet went to hell for his heroic sacrifice after surviving an ordeal...

My question is...I found it very disappointing that Warren after all this ordeal cant find what he seeks. Probably peace with his wife. Is there another ending? What would happen if I choose The Undertaker in final mission? Do they make any difference in storyline of Warren? I ask you this for the only youtube video ending I saw, it was a mere repetation of Warren's hell verdict...

Wish he had some kind of salvation. I know "good always wins, evil always loses" is a cliche theme but it wasnt satisfying enough. The narration at least could've showed him happy for doing the right thing smiling and accepting his sentence, rather than merely showing a bloody corpse on ground with "OH ♥♥♥♥ IM GOING HELL OH GOD OH" look on his face.

Also a little note : I believe Shadow Salve should be a Warren only card. Im not sure but I believe I gave it to others around, which turned a mere persons into hellish abomination. It takes "The Gunslinger From Hell" which makes you feel like an unstoppable juggernaut whose can regenerate in nightmare totally away.

Small things that bother me there and there...But overall a great game and Im pleased with the end-game product. Thank you developers for the great time!

The undertaker path has the same ending for Warren.

The way I see it, if Warren rebuts the Devil then he finds himself being played by Death instead.

At first I didn't like Death's voice. I would have expected him to be a cold and indifferent narrator about what's going on, speaking from a neutral point of view. Yet Death's voice shows empathy to Warren which doesn't fit that role at all.

Now I'm thinking that's intended. Death isn't indifferent, he's got his own agenda. He kind of guides Warren along culminating in how he literally advices him to act in Death's own interest in the end. "Unveiling" the Devil's manipulation in order to manipulate Warren towards his own goal. Where does a world where noone dies anymore leave Death after all?

Intended or not, I very much like that concept.

That's a fine thought, I did not even think about it when I finished the game an hour earlier.

Anyhow though, I think game like Hard West has exactly the ending it should have. If there was a happy ending, I'd still go for bad one. It's like to say noir movies should have happy ending.

The only thing I'm kinda unhappy about is that the Undertaker's fate after the final showdown is not explained even a little bit in the end, even if you play as him.

Feel like it should have been if Warren denies the Devil, he becomes Death's Grim Reaper: A semi-mortal agent on Earth that acts as a balancing force between The Devil and God. Devil's scheming to try and disrupt the natural order? He sends Warren as a direct hand of Death. Angels go rogue and try to directly intervene? Warren takes them out.
