"Elliot Ness approach" achievement
I have tried everything I can to get this achievement, but it doesn't seem to work.

I use my stunner to get in, and Lao even says something about me acting like Elliot Ness. But there's no achievement.

I have the other two achievements for this door. It's a really minor deal, I know; but I'm trying to get 100% on a game for once. Haha.

Thanks!

Maybe you have to restart the game, too. At least that's what worked for me, because I had the same problem.

I already tried that. :( I couldn't get it to work by loading a save, so when I started a new game with commentary on, I tried.

No luck.

This is my second run through the game.

you have to knock on the door three times. max'll say something like "we need to try something else". if you break down the door before that, the achievement won't activate.

I have the same Problem.
Knocking three times doesn't work either.

Just tried that. Knocked 3 times; got Lao telling me that I had to try something else. Still no achievement upon entering, though.

Hm. Knocking doesn't have anything to do with getting the achievement. Have you changed the graphics settings of how you're running the game? Some people are reporting achievements not working when running in Direct3D9 mode

I saved the game in the hallway before trying anything, since I had problems in my first play-through with this achievement.

I tried shocking the door and walked in and got no achievement.

I loaded the save and called Central to have her open the door, and it gave me that achievement immediately. No graphics changes.

I guess I could try uninstalling and reinstalling, haha.

Edit: Ok, I never changed graphics mode, but I just checked and I AM running it in Direct3D9. I've never had any other problems with achievements, and I know that it gave me the "Central opens the door" one as soon as I tried it, on these settings. But I'll try!

I started the Setup before playing the first time, but I didn't change anything. (Direct3D9 was the default though and changing it to DirectDraw 5 just now didn't help.)
38 other achievements unlocked just fine.

Third Playthrough btw, the first time I let Lao unlock the Door.
The second time Central opened it.

Yeah, just tried DirectDraw and nothing. Then tried Direct3D9 again just in case. Then DirectDraw again. Haha. Nope.

Hrmph!

By the way, absolutely great game. :)

I THINK I FIGURED IT OUT.

I decided to continue my "commentary on" play-through and just loaded the same game I've been loading to try this. (It's my farthest save with commentary on.) I clicked the stunner on the door CONTROL PANEL this time. Exact same animation and dialogue, but this time I got the achievement.

That's the only thing I can think of that I did differently this time. I'm *almost* certain that previously I was clicking the stunner on the door itself. (Which would have him shock the control panel and gain entry, just the same.)

Just tried that, didn't work for me.

Edit: Nevermind, it DID work. But the achievement notification didn't pop-up in Game.
