problem with winsetup.exe
Hi,

I just installed the game, but when I run the winsetup.exe, the gui window is cut after the first half, so I can't choose option below the cut... any Idea how to fix this?

Hi. Could you post a screenshot to demonstrate the problem?

Huh! It looks like you have a monitor with a VERY high resolution and the winsetup file doesn't know how to react to it. Try lowering the resolution of your monitor before running the winsetup and see if that works.

Not an ideal solution but you can hit ENTER when in the setup and the settings will be saved.

I have a normal 4k resolution... turning it down to lower resolutions didn't change anything...
edit: Ah, maybe you think i'm using a VERY high resolution because of the screenshot? but that is only due to the setting in the options (8x nearest neighbor), when I choose "Graphics Filter: None" it says "640x400" under resolution, but still the same cut off window -.-

yes thanks, I knew this... but it doesn't help anything because I don't even see some of the option and so I can't change them

Looks like a bug when using custom Windows scaling. I think this has been fixed upstream in AGS. You should be able to workaround by temporarily reducing scaling to 100% under the Windows Settings app > System > Display > Scale and layout.

thanks for the tip, but I tried that already, doesn't work either...

Damn. Looks like you can only edit the config file directly then, unless the engine gets updated in Technobabylon. Is there any particular setting you're trying to achieve?

for other games (e.g. the Apotheosis Project) the Setup works for me and I can select things like Desktop resolution, linear interpolation Filter, max fit scaling, vert. sync or smooth scaled sprites... don't know if that's possible for Technobabylon, too...

The Apotheosis Project is using v3.4.0.5 of the engine. Technobabylon uses v3.3.0.1164.
The options you're referring to were introduced in v3.3.1.

There's no setting in v3.3.0 to run full-screen without changing the desktop resolution. Your easiest option is probably windowed mode with 5x scaling, but it may be possible to get an acceptable full-screen resolution with some trial and error.

The only graphics-related options you can't see in the setup:

Enable Side Borders. This seems to be on by default. To disable:
[misc] sideborders=0

Enable top & bottom borders:
[misc] forceletterbox=1

ah ok, thanks very much for your help!

With the "max nearest neighbour" I have a good fullscreen on my 4k monitor, so I'll leave everything as it is now :)

Sorry for the delayed reply (with so many games I don't check the steam forums as often as I should). Yes, this issue was fixed in later editions of the AGS engine. I tend to resist upgrading because it means that it breaks everybody's save games. Which is... problematic, as you can imagine.

I think I'm having this same issue now on a 4K monitor. Has anyone gotten this game looking decent on a 4K monitor, and if so, can you post the contents of your acsetup.cfg file? I don't mind fullscreen but it appears to be stretching the 640x400 image to use my full monitor and it doesn't look right.
