As for updates, some mods will be broken by an update, and require you to either wait until the mods get updated, fix what broke yourself, or play without them for a while. However, do not remove mods mid-playthrough, that can and usually will cause the save to either get buggy or stop loading for good.
And if you know how to manage folder structures, with certain mods you can do things like having several TCG types in your save. You can for example have the "Standard" rarity be Pokemon cards, the "First Edition" rarity be Digimon, the "Silver" rarity be Yu-Gi-Oh and so on. But it will take a lot of renaming files, testing and fixing what breaks.
Anyhow, TL;DR version: Nexus mods work fine but updates may break them until they get updated.
I just wish there was also Holostars included in it.
