What am I missing about the workbench?
It seems like a complete waste of money and space. I have opened maybe 600 packs and have lots of trash cards. The workbench does what I expected it to do, its just such an inefficient process though. Once you buy it you're 1000 in the hole, then in order to even break even on the bulk boxes you can only sell cards less than 10 cents, right? it pulls 100 from your binder and the market price is only 10 ish dollars? I get selling bulk IRL is not profitable really, but I would rather just keep them in my binder at that rate, there doesn't seem to be an upside. 1000 dollars and the space requirement just to spend time making bulk boxes and losing money doesn't make sense to me.

have yet to get it myself, but i was going to try to just leave it at $1 max limit, then try to sell them for $50/box. Make $0.50/card and go from there, or go down to $20-25/box and see if they'll bite. Or, set the limit to something like $0.25 or less cards. Since, when you're buying and opening say the packs, you're paying 21-22 cents per card, depending of you are opening the packs, or the boxes. Make some sort of profit on it per card as ROI but who knows.

I am selling mine at $17 a pack
I paid $1000
have 12 on the shelf = $204
It's 1/5th paid when they sell already...

You can change the sliders in the bottom right of the workbench so that it will grab cards of varying value. I set my to $1 or less (maximum). You can also set how many of each card to keep in your folder (In case you're hunting the Steam achievements). Because beyond that, unless you're going to manually sell all those <$1.00 cards, it's just chaff sitting in a folder.Better to sell them. You'll make your money back after you've sold ~100 of the repacks.

i just feel like that money and shelf space could go towards something that turns a profit. unless you are exclusively selling cards less than 17 cents a piece you're still losing money.

You are going to lose more money by holding onto them or even putting them up for sale. Anything under $2.00 takes longer to put up, adjust pricing (Even just 1 time), check at the register and process the transaction + possible change.

You're thinking about the raw value of the stuff you're getting rid of, but that's meaningless if you factor in what I mentioned above. You can sell by bulk faster, or take forever to sell 1 by 1, which would never end. You pick

Change the sliders at the bottom to anything $1.00 or less and to keep only 1 card.
I only use the workbench once every 5 days, otherwise the workbench is packed up on a box and stored in front of the door to the right of outside (it doesn't despawn) and then I just set it up, create a bunch of bulk one night and pack it up again!

On night 22 and I've already paid back ~$700 of the $1,000 and I sell my bulk at $15 each.

It is worth it in the long run but not a requirement.

Well you're supposed to be making more on the higher value cards? The bulk boxes are just a little tiny refund. I'd rather have the little refund than nothing. The big value cards are where the money is made, but yes it is inefficient and I wish customers weren't so obsessed with singles, because I'd just forget them entirely. I mean this is how bulk boxes are in real life. No one wants the commons, so just put them together and get at least something from them. Some of the singles are worth between 100-3000 dollars.

Also the max is not 10 cents, its 1 dollar.

Another key thing, make sure to add at least 10% to the cost of singles. The higher the value, the more you can upsell it. I might try to sell a $300 market value high end card for $400. Someone will grab it. The customers are obsessed with singles. So its based on how much you're willing to upcharge them.

I also always round costs by the dollar so I don't have to deal with coins lol

you do want to make sure you set it to keep at least 2 in the folder. There's been some people reporting bugs that the workbench will still eat ALL the cards and leave nothing behind if you set it to 1, but higher than that works fine.

Right now its basically pointless not because of the cost but the space and time it takes.
Occupies 2 wire shelving's worth of space easily, you need shelves to sell the boxes, takes too long to use for no return. When you can have employees auto restock those same shelves and make more with no effort.
