You will still use a little electricity on the checkout and "anti smell" machines but not nearly as much as if you turn on the lights
I just don't want my customers sitting in the dark so I turn on my lights always.
Nor do I want to be stocking my shelves or opening cards in the dark. Imagine getting a mega ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ rare card in the dark and you can't see ♥♥♥♥.
Sure, you can open your binder tomorrow and see it, but not the same as fresh out the pack.
On the otherhand; fun fact, the lights cost money per irl second, not in-game time.
I learnt that the hard way. I turn on my lights at 4:30pm-ish, I accidentally fell asleep. Woke up the next morning and I had 4 customers patiently waiting for me to check them out (god bless no negative reviews for waiting to be served!) - the next day, my normally £65-75 electricity bill was freaking £1400!!! More than rent and employee wages.
Again, it could just be my brain tricking me so more testing might be required.
Update: I've read through the source code of the game and there isn't anything that would turn customers away if the lights are off coded into the game (so it is just a placebo). Having the lights in the shop on or off doesn't affect customer reviews or whether a customer will enter the shop, it literally only increases the electricity you have to pay each day if you turn the lights on.
One thing I did find in the code that no one seems to be talking about is that if you open more than 3 card packs near a customer, they will lower their review score.
Well electricty seems to be very "simple" implemented atm. For instance, if you leave your light on after 9 a.m., the electricity cost does not increase.
I hope they improve light realisticly(customers leave the shop, because they can't see anything)
For the customer review score/pack opening mechanic....i never read this before either, but 1. customer review is fairly new 2. most player's are no modders/programmers^^
If this is true...yeah that's good too know and a realistic behaivor for costumer(one of the few right know^^)

Here is an Imgur link to the two screenshots of the source code where it is referring to opening more than 3 packs near a customer and then the review score being decreased by -15 per instance of opening more than 3 packs near that customer.
The opening packs thing is in the info dump, I just don't think people notice it in game. I don't think there is a specific review complaint about it, just that it would increase the possibility of bad reviews.
I just open my cards in the street or in lot B
Thank you for the pictures. Interesting.
I think, the dev's are working on it, but it's not fully implemented yet.
They only negative review score's i encountered are "couldn't buy ....cards" and i am constantly opening packs(nearby costumers or in their faces^^)
Maybe there is no according review message integradted or it's buggy integrated, but my feeling is...it's not fully implemented yet.
@kinggraves: i agree
@velo & mac: i agree with you too. Money/electricity is not the problem. It's rather not well/realisticly integrated yet, so "greedy" players avoid to even turn on the lights(which is even more funny, if players turn off lights/prayers at 9 p.m.^^).
