This is how i do it, i have an empty box sitting on the workbench, i fill boxes then use the empty box to pick them up to take them to the shelf.
An easy way would be if the workbench allowed you to pull an empty cardboard box from it, should you need an empty one that is.
I'm surprised the dev didn't do that with the workbench from default, as empty boxes is still one of the biggest annoyances in supermarket simulator, where currently, you need to store each box size on the racking for each product of said size, which takes up a large amount of storage space of empty boxes for literally no reason lol.
