Owning Pets?

I stumbled on a card shop while hanging around with my friends and they sell cards and board games while they have their pet cat roaming around and a lot of people go to that particular hobby shop just because of the cat. Do you guys think adding a pet like a dog, cat, or even a bird like a parrot work in this game like boosting popularity or something as a mechanic?

I remember playing some sim games where there are "competitors" and there's a leader board for the best shop or town and boosting popularity gets you more customers and more things that are exclusive for higher tier or status

Yeah this is a fun idea. Having a little tetramon roaming around would be awesome.
