Bug: Constant Crashing

Randomly KS will Crash, This is on the Steam version.

When new dialogue appears it will sometimes crash, I had the game running persistently for about 3 Hours and it crashed, losing unsaved progress (It could be remedied by using Skip Mode, and Skip Unread Text). Mostly when trying to start KS it will crash back to desktop

Using Linux Version
I have no Third Party Mods

Look in the game folder for a log.txt, it will contain the reason for the crash.

Doesn't seem to be any reason for the crashes in the Log.txt. I had a total of 6 In-Game Crashes in the Steam release of KS

Well, then it's not the game's fault. Check your computer for hardware issues.

Does it just crash or do you get a grey error screen with a lot of programmer's gibberish? If the latter, what does it say?

Doesn’t say anything, it just immediately exits. Today i had this happen about 2 times

In that case it's not the the developers' fault. The game runs on Ren'py, a script engine for visual novels that pases the script in runtime. If there was any problem with it, the engine would give an error message.

Do the points where it happens have anything in common? Does it happen at the same spots? Does it always happen at these points in the game?

My first guess would be your drivers, or maybe your RAM is defect.

Just occurs randomly within the game. This occurs on both my Desktop and Steam Deck.

In that case, your Linux is probably so new that the old Ren'py distribution (remember, the game is over 10 years old and the engine is a one-man-project) has problems with it. Try playing the Windows version on Wine.

Random crashing issue still occurs as of the latest update. The game got Steam Deck Verified recently, i have played KS pretty much exclusively on Steam Deck and the crashing is pretty annoying since it just kinda happens without showing why

Other titles on my Steam Deck, Lightweight or Graphically Intense, Don’t forcefully crash even after hours of play.

Crashing happens after about 20 Minutes, 1 Hour or sometimes 2 Hours into play of KS.

It probably isn't a steamdeck issue if it also crashes on regular linux on your PC. As I said, the devs are probably powerless because it is most likely a Ren'py issue. The game runs on a vintage version of the engine.

Have you tried Wine?
