The player count is like 20 people.
I stopt playing ZMR as its just not fun playing solo in co-op or 1v1 in pvp :(
Legit, tell me more - and do me a favor and tell me where to go for it, I wanna play this game but it's gotta have enough players to do it with randoms.
I'm downloading and installing each of them to try. I already had Hazard Ops (UK) while I was still playing ZMR. One thing going for it is it's in English language and has active PVP without a level requirement. The mech wars are even active. However, the update stops with the dinosaurs. This means it doesn't have any of the Red Road Russian soldier campaign. There are more items in the store but arranged differently for what is for cash and what is for gold. All the maps and modes are there otherwise and everything has been renamed. The game has more gore and excessive blood. The character voices are different. Some of the name choices are very UK, such as Drones being called Sky Killers and Chaps. It hasn't been updated in quite some time either though so I would be cautious.
Right now I'm not sure offhand which game has the largest playerbase because I'm still trying out all of these others. I do know that the Chinese version has new content and maps and even a new training stage. I watched some gameplay on Youtube. They also have regular updates and even had one this week.
If you check the ZMR reddit you can find a discussion about alternative versions.

FireStorm 2 from Sabay Digital was overall a mixed bag. For being out of Cambodia nearly all of the game is in English including the descriptions and text (which is an unexpected plus). The game model disappointed me instantly by starting me out with only one permanent assault rifle, the SCAR-L. I was shortly rewarded with a temporary XM8 -- so two assault rifles. You don't even begin with an assault rifle and an LMG. The store was a disappointment. I already sensed this when I saw my outfit reward of the Tropical Heat top was only good for 3 days. In the store you can't even own a single weapon to keep. You can pay gold to rent one from 3 to 7 to 30 days or worse spend real cash. The same applies to outfits, you're only renting them. The gas mask is in the store for real money and is not yours to keep. Only the costumes can be bought with a permanent option. I repeat, you can't permanently own any of the weapons from the store. From what I understand you also can't get a permanent version from the Shooting Gallery nor can you from doing the storymode requirements. The store cash is called EMP which is short for En Masse Points, which is just wrong because Sabay Digital is not En Masse Entertainment. Apparently everyone begins as a VIP. I did not have a full set of green bars, instead I had a tiny red dot and my FPS was low. I didn't feel like grinding out 10 PVE missions just for a pair of shorts to match my top that expires in 3 days. I can't even figure out how to get a drone. I think I'm expected to buy one in the store.
Next up I'm going to check out Global Mission 3 from China and Black Fire from Russia.
So bizzare.
After comparing all of the versions I have so far, En Masse Entertainment's version was more competent than given credit for. The title Zombies Monsters Robots actually describes what the game is about (it is what it says on the tin). While the EMP cash store has some weapons you can't find in the in-game cash store, all of them can be won in the Shooting Gallery with bullets which are just given for logging in daily or rewarded for getting ranks in missions and game modes. Over the course of just playing and being patient and deleting so many duplicates, I won nearly every paid weapon in the EMP store and never spent a dime. The only game-changing weapons that are OP are really AR Nemesis. RipSaw, and Boom Tube, but those weapons aren't permanent and eventually expire and have their own tricks for earning them. RipSaw is given for taking on the Boss Rush gauntlet on Expert mode so it feels rewarding to get this. The only items you would need to spend real cash on would be better drones, drone cases in hopes of getting a Mk II or Mk III Epic version of one, packs with cosmetics and weapons, or of course the exclusive costumes. Costumes are purely cosmetic and only the individual pieces of gear offer stat benefits, such as cash store gloves giving 10% more EXP as opposed to 3% EXP from the gold store.
En Masse ZMR is also the only version so far that actually has beautiful loading screens before the missions which actually reflect what each is about and have a description which tries to tie them into a storyline. (The Chinese version most likely does this too but I cannot read it) Likewise the mission titles actually make sense and are well-named: "Big Dam Heroes", "Jur@ssholes", "Mission Control" I play these other versions and they just show a camera panning over the map area and a blueprint plan style map in the corner for the loading screen. En Masse ZMR also has unique voices for both male and female characters to select from. Each name has their own dialogue which gives them personality in-game. That is one of the things I will miss most of all when En Masse shuts ZMR down - - my character with the Harley voice saying cute and crazy things such as "Stop giving me your bullets!", "Jam? But I wanted jelly!" and "Crap! No ammo?!? No bang bang!??"
When creating a character, it has 4 voices in Russian and then the "You want a piece of me?!?" English voice as an option labeled "no translation". There is no daily logging in reward system to earn bullets so I have no clue what the Shooting Gallery is like. Storymode missions are there but only the Moon Base set. I found it interesting that the splash image when signing into the game plays up the Russian soldiers from Red Road since this is the Russian version of the game. I had two red bars while playing an assault map. Average FPS. Seeing revive tokens for real money instantly turned me off. If I played a match of PVP I could be rewarded with a revive token. I didn't bother.
I'm pretty sure a lot's of players left because the official servers where too laggy for a lot's of them.
