Since I install windows 8.1 I had lot of errors, including problems with directX in many games. I figured out that I need to add a few dll file to them to run properly. So I keep this files (msvcr100.dll, msvcp100.dll, xinput1_3.dll ) in case of some crash.
I had the same runtime error, I tried many things with no results and at last I tried this files.
I've add this files to main game folder (in my case G:\Obduction ) and (G:\Obduction\Obduction\Binares\Win64) and the game is working.
I have no idea if this will work in Your case, but is worth to try, let my know if it helped ;)
See the above... it is the DX runtime installation.
The link I provided will re-install the DX runtime libraries.
Microsoft's DX installers are pretty intelligent. They will fix errors and not touch valid existing files nor update newer versions with older files that are not necessary.
Means something was not correctly installed.
I'll bet you performed an "upgrade" instead of a clean install, an something went wrong in the process.
In your shoes I would download the Microsoft Win10A upgrade "tool".
Use the tool to create a USB drive that has all of the Win10A installation files.
Back up your personal files, then use the USB stick to perform a clean install of Windows 10A.
That will give you a good Windows 10A installation with a working DX setup.
You could also use the USB drive to try to perform a Win8 to Win10 in place upgrade, which may keep all of your installed software, but this is more iffy. You could try that first and if you still have issues do a clean install of Win10A (format hard drives).
Anyway it still applies to you. Something is screwed up in that your system is not permitting the game to see or run all of the DX libraries.
One thing I suggest you try before anything else is this... especially since it is pretty easy to do...
Exit Steam
Kill of unnecessary background tasks and system tray items.
Right click on Steam and select "Run as administrator".
Find Obduction in your list and "verify game cache".
Once it is done, start the game. It will act like it is re-installing it, but it will only act to fix missing files.
If the game comes up, exit, exit Steam and start Steam normally.
If that doesn't work you come back full circle to your video drivers.
So I tabled the Obduction issue for a while; installed antivirus; went online; got Steam. And then randomly, I just clicked Obduction for grins -- it started right up. No issues at all.
IOW, the problem "solved itself."
