Can't boot game. Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Runtime error

I get this error occasionally after installing a new game. If you have firewall/antivirus software, make sure you allow/trust the game executable in the software. That usually helps me.

I have the same issue. It did install during first time setup but it still won't run. Trying to install them manually doesn't work because the installers say (rightly) that the runtime is already installed. Rebooting didn't help either.

Yep I "fixed" it, Skengman was correct. I'm not exactly a tech expert, but I'll explain best I can. First, in the list of Programs in the Control Panel, I uninstalled the "latest" Microsoft Visual C++ 2015. But only the x86, not the x64. In my case, it was version number 14.0.24210.0

Then I downloaded the "latest" version from Microsoft's website, which was version number 14.0.23026 (wouldn't that be an earlier version? anyway) Don't know if doing something like that screws with other programs, but at least Obducion's running now, lol.

EDIT: Ran into a problem. I'm not seeing the hologram folks, only get audio. Not sure if related to this, but I'll edit in a link to a fix that works for me if I find one.

I had the same problem as fryzm, but instead of uninstalling Microsoft Visual C++ 2015, I double-clicked on it in the Control Panel list and then clicked "Repair." Once it finished, I started Obduction, got a message saying the program couldn't start because msvcp120.dll was missing -- reinstall the program to fix this problem. Closed the box -- and Obduction started. Go figure... :)

I cant even start it. I cant even install the visual studio c++ crap because it always gives me an error. I was so looking forward to this game and it is the only game that tells me I need to install something (and doesn't do it for you) and I can't even install the redistributable without it dying on me.

I guess I need to refund it :/

sweet beautiful merciful gaming gods I figured it out! I solved the holograms not playing video (at least for me)


so I was running Windows 10 n version. this was the problem. I had to download the latest media pack update for it

Took me a while but I was able to find a solution, hopefully it works for others.

-Go to the Obduction folder on your hard drive (steam/steamapps/common/Obduction) and open the folder that says "_CommonRedist" then open "vcredist" then "2015."
-Inside are the two exe files with the most recent Visual C++ updates. Copy these to your Desktop.
-Run the one that matches your OS (32bit systems run the one that says "x86," 64bit run the "x64."
-Let the program run, and Obduction should work after that.

I was trying to use the C++ packages from the MS website but I was opening them from my download folder, and they wouldn't work right, so copying and running these from your desktop seems to be key (don't ask me why).

Doesn't work because for some reason my computer doesnt install updates and without the newest updates I cant install this, and without this I cant play the game...the struggle. I am missing 3 key updates and even downloading them manually doesnt work because they never install...

Have the same problem. I have tried to re install game and runtime, but i still get the missing runtime error. I have contacted Cyan support 10 days ago about the problem, but they have not answered.
I will ask for a refund now.
