You can open https://store.steampowered.com/account/remotestorage , find there Obduction and see if it has any save files. And download them.
I looked in the file path, and I found the local saves, and are fills in there including the pictures I've taken... so I backed it up.
The cloud storage has 0 Stored...
So, now the question is, how do I get the save in "Slot0" to show up in game.
When I launch Obduction, and click on the saved game button, it takes me to an empty page, and no continue option.
Because I backed up the save file, I may try starting a new game and seeing if something changes...
I hate it when this kind of thing happens in the middle of a game. At least if there is a problem when I just start playing I'm not invested in finishing yet!!!
Try this:
Copy the .obd, .sav, and PNG files from the Slot0 folder to a new (Slot1) folder you create on your desktop.
Start a New game. Get to the white house in Hunrath. Exit to the Menu, choose LOAD GAME, and Copy the topmost save game there (using the arrow at the far right of that screen).
Then Exit the game, go to where you found your other saves game (the one you copied to a new folder), and while there copy and Paste the contents of the new Slot1 folder you made from your desktop into the Save Games there.
If this doesn't work, email support@cyan.com for further help.
Ooo! I will try that in the morning! Thank you!
Ok, I couldn't wait, I tried as you said, and something I didn't expect happened. No new files were created for the new game. I still had only slot0 in the folder. I tried a couple new games and saved them...
Then I tried deleting the contents of the SavedGames folder (because I had a back up) and launched the game again. All the new saved games were still there, and the new continue worked just fine. So, am I looking for the saved games in the right location?
iMac ▸ Users ▸ (MyUserName) ▸ Library ▸ Application Support ▸ Epic ▸ Obduction ▸ Saved ▸ SavedGames
I also tried making a save game with a unique name that I could search for, but I was unable to find any files with the identifier.
Let me just say I hate the way Mac file searches works! I could have had everything up and running days ago if it had shown me the files! It never appears to search all of the computer, even if I start at the root level. I had to go search in my library folder specifically (even though I have hidden files visible) for it to find anything other than the backup copy on my desktop!
Anyway, I found another Obduction save folder at the path below:
iMac/Users/(MyUserName)/Library/Containers/com.cyan.obduction/Data/Library/Application Support/Epic/Obduction/Saved/SaveGames/Slot0
This one has multiple slots in it, like it should, and is obviously the one the game is using.
I copied the contents of the first save games folder found at:
iMac/Users/(MyUserName)/Library/Application Support/Epic/Obduction/Saved/SaveGames/Slot0
To one of the slots in the new folder and all my progress is there!
As best as I can figure, the game suddenly switched form the old location to the new location with no warning and that is why my continue option disappeared.
Thank you tℨopc for your suggestion to search for similar files, and Halloween Jack for thinking of copying the contents to a new slot! Both worked great!
I hope all this helps anyone else that is struggling with this issue.
P.S.
Command + Shift + .
Will show or hide hidden files and folders (such as Library).
We've found on Macs in particular that Save Game places get shuffled drastically whenever Apple introduces a new MacOS to users. Not sure why, but it's happened more than once.
I will keep that in mind when I update.
