Didn't read the Update Release Notes before buying, eh? :steamfacepalm:

Change in HDR feature: Due to changes in how Microsoft supports HDR in Windows 10, the in-game HDR option has been removed. Workaround: For supported nVidia graphics cards, turn ‘on” the HDR option under Windows Settings > System > Display. For AMD graphics cards, due to current engine support, washed out visuals will be noticed with HDR. Please temporarily disable the HDR option within windows while playing with an AMD graphics card.

yes I did...

GTX1080 = Totally washed out colors when HDR enabled, so the notes referres to AMD cards having the issue, but def same with NVidia.

Nvidia HDR enabled in your Nvidia GTX1080 settings?

Or in Windows Settings > System > Display settings?

Or both?

In our experience, Nvidia Control Panel has color settings that must be set to automatic if you're using the Windows HDR settings.

yes that is set to automatic.

With HDR on, the colors looks washed out pale.
With HDR off, the colors are vibrant..

@adrian97c Sorry for the removal of the Nvidia HDR, as t3opc mentioned the Windows Creators Update has caused a real mess. We are working with Nvidia and Epic to provide a fix. When I get into the office tomorrow I'll look into this more. Thanks for your patience, sorry for the mess.

:( I really hope you guys find a fix, Mass Effect Andromeda's HDR does not work at all with the current Win10 and Nvidia updates

And for the blurry vr vision because of the Anti-aliasing , will you make a fix that correct this and makes the sharper ?

Can you send a screenshot of the blur you're seeing and a copy of your dxdiag report to support@cyan.com?

You ever type up a huge chunk of text, then mindlessly close the window while talking to your bosses? Had a huge thing written up here, let's see if I can re-cover it all here, please excuse the running brain dump:

HDR is an odd beast at the moment, hopefully I can shed some light on its current status.
Originally, HDR support in the game was handled with nVidia's GameWorks plugin for HDR. This was made depricated, unknowingly to nVidia, by Microsoft in the Windows Creators Update. The HDR option in wndows supercedes everything else. We'd removed the nVidia HDR option due to this. As of right now, the game engine on start up looks for an nVidia GPU and an HDR capable display. If it finds both, it automatically enables HDR for nVidia. If it finds an AMD gpu, it will disable HDR support in engine, but not windows, causing washed out colors. This is not something we can affect unfortunately.
We were hoping to find a way to query the Windows HDR display setting, and possibly adjust it on start up. We've been unable to find a solution, even contacting top people at Microsoft, they unfortunately didn't have an answer on how the option could be read or changed. So right now, we have a depricated nVidia plugin, and an OS level block on controlling the feature.

The only thing we can tell tell you currently, is what we have in house, how we have it set up, and what we've seen with it. We only have one HDR display in house, a Sony XBR D-Series. Hooked up to either a 1060 or 1080 with an 18Gbps cable. The TV is set for expanded color, and 4k/hdr/uhd input on the hdmi port itself. Under windows, the ONLY way I've found for the cards to properly pass the HDR signal is to leave all nvidia color settings to Automatic. Anything else gives mixed results. After this, set the windows HDR display setting to on. The game should start correctly in HDR. If it does not, make sure the game is set to Full screen (not borderless windowed). Everything *should* kick over, and the display should show itself in an HDR mode. Outside of this setup, I'm afraid we have no idea.

The best we can ask of our players is to send us a full description of their issue to support@cyan.com, and we'll do our best to sort the info and nail down the problems accross various configurations. And thanks again to everyone in the thread, we're all learning as we go :)

@Netshaman The blurry VR has nothing to do with HDR I'm afraid. It was caused by leftovers meant to improve performance on a different platform. We've nailed the issue, I just tested it this morning on my oculus, and we're good to go. You will see it in the 1.6.3 update we're trying to push out tomorrow morning.

I will send that email, along with before/after pics of HDR enabled/disabled... HDR off, colors look amazing!, HDR on & everything is dull & bland/washed. Nvidia latest driver, windows 10 latest edition, ASUS Strix 1080 A8G, DP cable to a Samsung CHG70 32” HDR Monitor @ 1440p. All settings as you described, automatic color.

Thanks, I will say a prayer.

Amazingly nice to see Cyan (trying to) support things like this quite some time after the main release and VR version. I'll snag it and wait for the GFX prices to come down (besides finding time to play these days..)
