Confederate victory
I have yet to win a total victory for the South. Is it even possible? Just won a game 5500 - 0 VP. YET This did not give me a decisive victory. I've logged about 25 hours on this game and never seen it for the South. Best I can do is the middle one Strategic I think.

I show how to achieve a decisive victory in this thread. As I say there the route to an epic victory has been changed and I haven't tested it to find how to achieve an epic victory in this patch.

That's because the Union is better...

Decisive Victory as the South vs a Dynamic AI (SP, naturally)...
Union...VP 10,500...Cas 26, 553
Confed...VP 53,000...Cas 16,340

It used to be easier until someone came along and said that, historical, the Army of North Virginia's strategic objective was to kill as much yankees as possible. It could be but Lincoln will lose the coming election (1864) if the Union suffered yet another defeat. The new government will most likely sue for peace. The war was already overwhelmingly unpopular in the north by that time. Take a look at the Vietnam War. Kill count was an objective. It was achieved but didn't help.

man i so agree with that army of NV objective. When i play single player its about massacring the enemy more so than capping points. As the battle wears on, if you are inflicting 2:1 casualties it really makes a difference.

I've seen some REALLY REALLY scary confeds players but they are rare, they may be few in numbers BUT the good feds really know how to win by BREAKING THE UNION MORALE, thats how the south has to play this game lol put the pressure smartly, CHARGE when your morale and condition is good, if you get the union to rout, it's pretty much game over, feds are harder to play than union, you gota be a lil smarter =) hope you see the good fed players and see what they do!

You are talking about short-term tactical objective: making coming engagements easier. But I was talking about the final victory description. All it take might be just another victory to win the war. Basing it on kill-count is too harsh.

Well my solution is sort of the greedy algorithm. I think I finished my first time through doing this with 30k inflicted to 12k lost against balanced AI (random). It really works, when you ahnilate the iron brigade on day1, when the union is deploying divisions with just arty remaining. i mean its an organized slaughter, but it works.
I found it easier to play as Confederates, and have a hellova hard time with playing the Union. This has only been on SP with random AI, but I find the higher morale and condition allows for a bit more of my-style of playing (aggressive).

As the Union, once your line breaks, it's gone for good it seems.

I got epic victory as a Confederate: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=373765396

The trick is to use your artillery wisely and to capture the points regardless of how many men you lose.

That's an epic victory just for that scenario Meister, not for the whole Gettysburg battle, good job though. If anyone manages a campaign epic confederate win let me know the scenario order you took as it got changed in the last patch.

Yeah. I've only managed a marginal victory so far myself as the confederates, despite having 50,000 victory points to the Union's 10,000 or so. Admittedly, I was only winning on kills by about 1,000 troops (about 25,000 dead on each side). It seems the victory points don't really do much for getting a better than marginal victory unless you essentially monopolize "all" of them.
