It's shady, i know, but someone threw out a deutche version of the game and 1.07 patch with it.
i wouldnt bother though, since ot doesn't seem to resolve any of the major issues.
- still massive freezes in missions 4 and 5 (better strategy is to just keep stealing trains to lower AI's activity to the minimum - he keeps buying trains and wasting money untill he is deeply in dept and cant do anything);
- still crashing whenever you connect to any gold miner camps in campaign -> can't finish side missions -> cant get all medals and 100% completion;
- still random crashes in mission "stay dry" in skirmish.
So i really can't see any advantage to playing this over the steam 1.06 version.
Also, if I have a 6-GB RAM, would it help?
WARNING: You're old save files won't work anymore and the game will crash if you try so make sure you make a backup of your campaign.nfo file in the save folder. you can copy it back after you did the steps below and keep all the mission, medals and trains on your fleet.
Here's what I did:
1. I installed my disc copy on my C: drive (As far as I'm aware that's V1.0).
2. I downloaded the German v1.07 patch
( Link: https://www.patches-scrolls.de/patch/3327/7/48928/download )
3. I installed the patch but at first it couldn't find the game that's why you need to install the game at the default path.
4. After that it kept asking for a CD so I downloaded a No-CD patch for the US v1.0.
( Link: https://www.gamecopyworld.com/games/pc_railroad_pioneer.shtml )
5. I copied over the files from my C: drive to the Steam version en replaced all.
6. I place the AR.exe and Railroad.exe in the steam version.
After these steps it should boot up but a downside to this solution is that your game is in German from this point forward but it's nothing a translator can't fix. As I mentioned above I'm currently at Mission 06 and haven't experienced any stutter, freeze or crash.
Hope this solution works!
Have fun!
EDIT: If you want to play the game in widescreen use dgVoodoo it makes it go down a lot easier on modern monitors.
