We are completely relying on the audio settings of Steam.

When you're ingame you can open the Steam overlay, go to settings, "ingame voice settings" and the modification you make there will be applied ingame. We cannot put this options directly in the game settings because Steam doesn't allow it though for the app based on its settings.

Sometimes, the 'in-game voice settings' may not appear in the Steam overlay for certain users.
This might be the case for your friend. Here are the steps to resolve the issue.

• Open the Steam overlay (SHIFT + TAB), select "Voice"
  
• Open the PC sound settings
  
• Set the correct microphone under the Recording tab, set it to default and click on "ok"
  
• Reopen the Steam Overlay (SHIFT+ TAB)
  
• Select the correct microphone under Voice Input Device
  
  I’ll also share the steps to follow in case the 'in-game voice settings' do appear in the Steam overlay.
  
  
• check your mic is not used in another app
  
• launch the game
  
• while ingame, use the Steam overlay (default key: SHIFT+TAB) and enter the "ingame voice settings" (not just the "voice settings")
  
• reselect your microphone even if it's already displayed
  
• a Windows input settings window might open up, select your desired mic, right-click then set it to default and click on "ok"
  
• back on steam settings, make some test and apply
  
  Normally, one of these methods always fixes the microphone issues that players have encountered! I’d appreciate it if you could let me know if it worked for your friend.
