Do you need to play any of the prior Yakuza games to get this one?
I haven't played a Yakuza game prior, but this game is shaping up to be so batsh𝐢t that I feel like I kind of have to play it.

there are plot references to the previous game infinite wealth, i dont believe it will hinder your enjoyment of the game or make you unable to understand whats going on but it will spoil infinite wealth so keep that in mind

I guess you can, one of the key elements to this game is that the main character has amnesia, they obviously did that so new players can play it without prior knowledge of the other games, so they'll definitely show his past in a way new players can understand, they even said so in an interview.

I wouldn't said it will spoil Infinite Wealth, at least from what they showed in the trailers, it's a very minor plot point if you don't know the context and you'll probably forget about it once you get to the 8th game, also basically in all of the recent releases they'll give you a (sometimes very subtle) recap from the previous games, so I guess you can start at any point you want

What he said. The only spoilers you could get is some characters from other prequels. But this is a spin-off so there shouldn't be any major spoilers.
I don't think you NEED to, but as mentioned there are things that you'll miss, will go over your head, etc. if you haven't played some of the previous games.

Most likely the greatest number of references that you'll miss in this game will come if you haven't played

Yakuza 0, Yakuza: Like a Dragon and Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth

You'll probably enjoy this game just fine, but all of Majima (the protagonist's) origin story is covered in Yakuza 0.
