First time with this franchise
This is my first game in the like a dragon franchise. I saw it on youtube and this game looked unhinged, insane, crazy and my reactions were "Wtf" followed by "I need this game". Any other Like a Dragon games I should look at that people can recommend?

if you have the money pretty much all of em are worth buying

except ishin {mostly for confusion reasons/also not cannon} and yakuza 3 {this one actualy kinda sucks}
I would suggest picking up Yakuza 0 as a starting spot if this game looks really interesting for you.

It has a dual protagonist thing between Majima (the star of this game) and a guy named Kiryu (the main star of most of the main series).

It essentially contains the "origin stories" for each guy, so that game will explain a lot of how Majima became the character you see in this game.

Just a brief warning that game starts with a couple chapters of Kiryu and then gets to Majima in Chapter 3 and flips back and forth between the two the rest of the game.

Here's a sampler of the Majima content. (First scene he is in.)

Yeah i ended up getting Yakuza 0 aswell, its a slow start getting used to the story, but now its really interesting and the side stories are fun. So many mini games as well, dart, pool, casino, karaoke etc, its crazy.
After all the games in the franchise, THIS is the one you are interested in? No, you should not check out any other Yakuza games. :csgo_loser:
They all have unhinged moments. I love the,. and you should play them

all of them the lowest is the orphanage one its 3 i think
I may be putting my hand in boiling waters but do the original ps2 yakuza 1 hold in this day and age? i know for a fact the whole majima everywhere on the remake can be a gamble one to four so is better or worse in the original?

Yakuza 0 is by far the best starting point. I think playing this first would be a waste because the main reason why this game was even made was because of Y0
Yeah Yakuza 0 is still King, Yakuza 7 (Yakuza Like a Dragon) is imo the 2nd best Yakuza game, that story goes places
do you real need to play the other games before this or is it a stand alone??

I mean... you dont need to play the other games but it will likely be a tad confusing.

Yakuza 0 will be the best starting point, as so many others have said.

There's no doubt going to be references that you won't understand and relationships you won't appreciate if you haven't played the other games, imo.

I would say that if you don't want to play 8+ games before this game.............you might want to consider playing the last 2 or 3, especially since it takes place in Hawaii.

Play Yakuza: Like a Dragon (Y7)..........then Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. If you want, play Gaiden: The Man who erased his name in between those two games.

I think that would be the bare minimum that I could recommend playing before this game.

Zero through 6 ishin and dead souls are all that matter the rest of the localized games are not worth it they're soulless cash grabs with horrible combat
Still waiting for them to localize Yakuza Kenzan 😒

I enjoyed Yakuza 5 quite a bit. If you like real time combat, you can't go wrong with Yakuza 0. Do NOT start the Like a Dragon series unless you are a fan of JRPG-style turn based combat complete with four-member party formation as well as learning "magic" and new skills.

All in all, here are some of the gaming references I see in Pirate Yakuza:
Devil May Cry / Bayonetta -- Obviously toned down but still hack 'n slash regarless
Dragon Force -- Commanding large armies and going to war over territory
The Sims & Cosmopolitan Virtual Makeover -- Customize your crew, decorate your ship, and thrive at sea while sporting the hottest looks!

I'm playing infinite wealth....
but it's just the last one....

As I did every title in the series exchept ishin...

so....
Judgment
Lost Judgment
Yakuza 0 and going on with every one after that (yakuza put your number, kiwami, like a dragon etc)

loved everyone..
but you'll need time to play them all
