Yakuza noob here, any starting tips?
I saw a couple of youtube videos that made this game look really fun. I've never played a Yakuza game or any game from this genre.

Do you have any advice for a noob before I get started?

be ready with atleast three healing itens on the invetory, the devs are kind enough, to give a couple on the path but not entering in too much deep of the combat, you may need two tipes of healing item to fully fill the UI hp and mp comes to mind

THIS^
In no particular order:

* Learn patterns, learn patterns, learn patterns.

* Enemies with guns are almost always fairly weak in terms of how much damage they can take. Prioritize them. If you have good headphones, the warning sound should cue you in to where they are when they're aiming at you in case they're to your side or behind you.

* Between the cooking minigame and how much different food and drinks you can buy, you can stockpile an absolutely absurd amount of healing items. However, the Staminan / Taurine health/heat beverages are relatively rare, mostly lootable at specific locations in missions.

* Some upgrades cost both cash and pirate reputation. In the endgame, you can certainly get into a state where you have more than enough cash to afford the last few upgrades but don't have enough pirate reputation if you haven't been doing all the minigames and side quests etc.

* Try not to skip the cut-scenes, because a lot of the plot is explained in them.

* Optional content (e.g. the highest-tier Pirate Colosseum battles) can be significantly more challenging than anything required for the main story.

Thanks, this was actually super helpful.

I'm not sure if I'll be able to NOT skip the cut-scenes though. I'm only about 2 hours into the game and I'm already in the "I don't care, just let me play the game" mindset every time a cut scene comes up.

Don't start with this game, this like the worst entry point possible
this is a great game and a great entry point

How is it a great entry point when it's a spin off? Neither of the series main protagonists are playable here, which makes this a terrible entry point.

Most people would say start with either Yakuza 0 or Yakuza Like A Dragon (depending on what style of Yakuza game you prefer). I personally would start with Yakuza 0.

Its weird because since Majima has amnesia an argument could be made its a solid starting point. But the game literally spoils ending details from 8 in Chapter 2 so you are right it is a terrible entry point. The only legitimate entry points are 0, Kiwami/1, or 7(prior to Chapter 12)
