How to use Support Squads abilities in coleseum fights?

I've searched everywhere for the keybind to make my support squad use their abilities but I can't find it listed anywhere in game or indeed online, unless I'm missing something and can't use them at this stage in the game? I'm currently at the point: just after you rescue Noah from the kidnappers and are then tasked with meeting up with Jasons ex wife and his daughter.

I know the tutorial mentioned it a very long time ago, and I had thought it was the up arrow on the dpad, but that's not worked so far so I'm at a loss now as my support squad just sits there never levelling up.

is the support bar at the bottom left of the screen filled? It should activate provided you filled your support slots.

Do you know what fills the bar? The fights currently take sub 2 minutes, are the enemies just dying too quickly or?

I believe there are squad leader traits that speed up the rate the bar charges. But yeah the bar simply charges with time and you can't really speed it up AFAIK.

As far as i've seen there's no trick to them. The gauge will just fill up and at some point you press the button to use it.

9/10 times it's up at the exact same time as the enemies' for me.
