Ya know what would make it REEEAAAALLY overpowered? If all you needed was a sniper and that one upgrade and it would shoot all over screen
(I'm starting by doing every map on easy, then medium, hard, then impoppable.)
If anything is OP, its the monkey engineer... all you need is 3 or 4 (depending on which map it is) and you basically have bloon-killing-machines (literally!)
What makes this towers so strong is their wide rsange of usability and their rather low money cost. The engineer is literally a tower builder on its own and you don't need any weaker towers for a long time when you have one. He replaces dart monkey on earlier rounds. Plus, he can remove lead and cameo, making that bloons targetable by other towers.
The shredder holds towers in place and even deals a good amount of DPS. Since all the bloons he sucks in and spits out are still popable he makes a good stunner. His weakness are however ceramic bloons since he seems to "chew" on them for a while, making him unable to get other bloons.
Compared to these two towers the submarine seems not so strong after all. to me it's actually a weaker version of the sniper monkey: unlimited range but weaker damage. However, splash damage/multiple targets at once balances this out again.
Plus, it needs to be placed in water or in pools (that cost money), so it's not that allmighty. New towers always seem very strong compared to some older towers but I use it less often as, let's say, snipers. I really love sniper monkey, i build at least 5 of them but most of the time 10 in a single level. They are really good against MOABS and for the rest i have other towers. it would be dumb to simply rely on a single tower type.
Although you are right about using a single tower type being stupid.
As for setting records, that really depends. Figuring out individual maps' good temple placements, sniper placements, etc. is far more important. I haven't looked into setting high scores, though.
EDIT: Not sure about impoppable. My Engi strats were the be-all end-all strats back ages ago, before they added Impoppable and Mastery.
