But yeah, that's all it is at this point - it's practically mindless (except still needs my attention up until about round 30 each time, when I have a few big towers and can leave the game to run through). There's no skill, no fun, just doing the same thing over and over, four times per map.
I guess I'm probably just going to stop playing Bloons TD5 because there's not much else to do, apart from wave high scores, or disabling all my upgrades and trying hard levels... I'm just confused why the Mastery stuff is in the game at all.
But do "Masters" REALLY need to tediously go through easier game modes if they can already beat the track on impoppable?!

This is the thread that Sam gave his response in, and it shows that a vast majority of the community absolutely hates this mechanic. And it's not just a "small sample" because there have been numerous threads about this topic, and every thread comes to the same conclusion. Like I said in that thread I linked, hopefully Ninja Kiwi will take note of just how much their players absolutely hate this mechanic, and finally change it for BTD 6...
Yeah, if you want any sort of a challenge, you need to play advanced/expert and above tracks, and keep monkey lab upgrades turned off, and don't use double cash, etc. etc. ... That stuff comes into play once you unlock Mastery Mode and the game gets WAY harder...
Because, like you have just alluded to, the "main game" is way too easy for some people, and they need more of a challenge, so voilà! [Insert Mastery Mode here] ...
What other tower defense game has a co-op mode?
And this was the developer response to the co-op chat idea...
And this was a thread where I and others discussed why this isn't as simple of an idea as "just add in a chat feature like the flash version had" ...

In short, you have to remember that flash is only for PC users, so it's easy to add in and moderate a chat feature, but Steam is multi-platform and also includes mobile and console users...
Exactly! Proving that you're masterful at something should be a test of skill, but the skill only comes AFTER you've unlocked the masteries. There's no skill involved in unlocking them, unless you self-impose it by turning 2x Money etc. off - but the game heavily disincentivizes doing that because then it would take even longer to unlock the masteries.
If they don't change the mastery mechanic, at least give more options to automate gameplay. It was SUCH a relief finding the auto-start-wave option, but I'd also really like ways to build towers with the upgrades already purchased, so I don't have to press "< < > > > >" a million more times, or have a way to click and drag an area to build a grid of towers in the most densely-packed lattice possible so that I don't spend so much time lining them all up.
Another post mentioned having automatic abilities which I'd love to see, although that's not quite related since you can just buy the upgrade path with no abilities.

Well I do sometimes, but as I said, it's faster to keep them on if you want to unlock masteries... It's a little backwards - I keep it on for easier levels because I know I can beat them anyway, but then I turn 2x money off for some of the harder levels because I actually want the challenge.
(I've not tried a Mastery level without 2x money though - that seems very hard... I should try it..!)

Oh no, I like the actual challenge mode once you've unlocked it, but... I don't know who would actually like playing the grind to unlock it. By the time you're good enough to want to play Mastery mode, getting through the levels will be trivial and boring.
Was BTD5 a mobile game originally - and could you buy Monkey Money with real money?
If so then it seems like Masteries are just a way to get you to buy Monkey Money to buy the 'Fastrack' option on every track... Otherwise, I have absolutely no clue why anyone would think it's a good idea.
And yes, it was originally a mobile game... the mobile version was ported to Steam... and I'm assuming one of the microtransactions is probably buying monkey money.
And to Pesto, yes this was a mobile game. I wonder why people think crappy gameplay and infinite microtransactions is forgiveable on "mobile" but not on desktop versions of the same game. Why should it be okay to design games around endless rip-off microtransactions on ANY platform? It has ruined gaming.
My personal opinion in the specific instance of BTD5 is that I am very unhappy with microtransactions being added to the Steam version (after years of it being microtransaction free) because it was originally marketed (and priced) as having no microtransactions. In effect, Ninja Kiwi went back on their word... I am okay with the mobile version having microtransactions because it was known from the start that mobile was going to have microtransactions, and that's just the revenue choice that Ninja Kiwi made... they didn't go back on their word, as opposed to the Steam version where they did...
Agreed... Developers have every right to choose that income model, but I personally do not support it because, in many instances, it's just an easy way for developers to continually siphon money (and bone their player base) instead of actually offering them a real product at a fair price point... These skins NK just added (at least on the steam version) are priced at 20% of their base game... so they are charging the same price for 5 skins as they charged for their whole base game (and the additional content they added over the years) ... I don't find 5 skins to have the same value as their whole game... it's a completely ridiculous bone-job on every level (which was conveniently timed because BTD5 is dying out and BTD6 is being developed) and it should be called out as such... I hope people know that they will most likely have to pay again for the same exact skins for BTD6, as well as pay for any additional skins that NK will conveniently offer people months after they choose to buy up those same skins a second time after the initial release date of BTD6... I'm not going to fall for this potential money-grab technique like many others have been, and I hope that NK doesn't actually decide to go this potential route with their skins...
