Confused. Who is the witch?

I am confused. I finished the game and picked a person to hang who i supposed was a witch, then there was a hanging animation and the game just started from the beginning. No clue if i hung a real witch or not. Okay, i playd again and hung a different person this time. Same thing. Isn't the game telling us if we hung the right person? Are we just supposed to replay the game over and over untill we exhaust ALL dialogues and figure it out for ourselves?

I think the moral of the game is that people used to be hanged on superstition alone, and there is actually no witch in the game, just people that do things that could be labeled as witchcraft
