Crossing tracks
How do you cross tracks? I'm just trying to make a branch off my main line, but the game doesn't seem to let me cross the tracks in any way I've tried

Looking at the screenshot you provided, the reason is you need to drag it down further to switch to the right lane and then do the same again

You don't is the answer. That kind of diamond crossings are not supported at the moment but apparently devs are trying to make them happen in the nearish future.

So to do what you want, you must first build points to allow access from left track to right track, and then branch off from the right track after those points.

Hm... that leads to some very awkward junctions. Does anyone have a screenshot of a T-Junction in this game?

This shows a level crossing in details i think. 4 tracks from left to right are freight down, fast down, fast up, freight up. Freight up crosses the fast lines earlier, as soon as the branch from the factory meets the main line. Train on the pic is on freight down, coming from the triangle.

Yeah, wow, that takes up a lot of space. And I was about to complain about what I came up with taking up too much space, but yours is even larger!

This is what I came up with:

I don't really mind the awkwardness of it so much as the amount of space it takes up. And this is with the tightest curves, so if I wanted trains to move faster on it, I would need to use up even more space!

Can I make this better? Or can we build overpasses / underpasses?

You can make it better by using an underpass from bottom of the T to left and from right to bottom. That way you reduce some of the conflicting movements.

Ideally no trains should face each other at any given time on a junction to keep it flowing.

Yes, mine are bigger, but i wanted to keep speeds up at 100km/h minimum. On points and in curves.

I used branch lines in my first games but it’s not very efficient in Train Fever IMO. Now I use 4-tracks stations, double tracks, way points and path signals. This way you can have almost as many trains you want on a double track between two stations. From one station you can have four different lines.

I can't figure out how to build underpasses. The track doesn't seem to want to go low enough to build a tunnel. Same thing for an overpass... can't get a bridge when I try.
