What is the Dawn Machine?

I've got a rare storylet that involved it and recently I found it at the edge of the map. But what IS the Dawn Machine?

Regarding its name and the storylet I have the theory that this was an experiment to create an artificial sun in the Neath but the whole thing have gone wrong and now it unleashes a light ray from time to time because it still tries to create an artificial "dawn" hencin its name.
But can this be right? Are there mor information towards it? I have to say the whole thing looks... unsettling.

The Greenlight page for Sunless Sea mentioned that we would be going up against "The golden agents of the dawn machine", Implyign they are villains.

The dawn machine appeares to be some sort of freak creation by the Admirality for... Some odd reason. Not sure why or what it does but they recently released a small story foreshadowing things about it in Fallen London.

Hm, interesting. Maybe a super weapon of the admirality? I've heard the news about a new side story about the admirility but I haven't unlocked it.

And yeah there's new story on Admiralty on Fallen London if you managed to get Acquaintance with the Wry Functionary up to 5...

Sounds pretty cool,if i had to guess its a Super weapon,since its implied alot of Neath Dwelling creatures and people can't survive sunlight,so an artificial sun maker might kill them all lol

I won't spoil it but Stars and the sun have a rather important place in the Fallen London lore. An artifical sun/star could be... bad...

As someone who doesn't play Fallen London, what is that place? I wouldn't call that a spoiler so much as needed background information.
