This is only useful to get on your feet. You should immediately switch to the red honey trade afterwards.
Considering the extremely high amount of money you got when it was introduced with no menace, Failbetter felt this trade was rebalanced, but what Thamalandis wrote.
(Honey trade is much better, especially if you switch to a Hidden compartment before docking in FL. That suspicion eventually goes down a lot faster, to expand on that)
That Yearning Burning menace only goes away when you rest in your lodgings 50% of the time, and (when lucky to get it) only lowers by 1 per. it also goes up by 1 when you travel to the surface. Apologies we didn't note that earlier. As Thamalandis noted also, it's to get you on your feet. Once you start getting the menace over 100[sunlesssea.gamepedia.com], you start (random checks) to compulsively open the boxes, risking wounds and death. Oh, and sometimes crew opens it too. "The Sun" is very addicting when you're gone from it, it seems.
