best ship? (spoilers)
i just finished the curators quest and trying to decide what reward to take. I havnt upgraded ships since getting the merchant ship (120 hold).. and i dunno, the steamship stat bonuses are cool.. but i like having a large hold.. im not sure i want to upgrade at all past my current ship, and curious about other peoples opinions.

I've found the reward ship to be sufficient for trading in coffee/linen/sapphires and taking tomb-colonists on tour, but then I'm not heavily into making echoes. It is harder to maneuver than the merchant-cruiser, imo; it's a lot wider and I keep scratching the paint.

One nice thing about having the Deed to a Steam-Yacht is you don't lose echoes when you trade it in (well you do lose echoes in one direction, from ships bought/traded in London... hopefully that wasn't confusing).

is there a way to get it back again if you trade the steam ship away?
disappointing that it doesnt have an aft or a forward. Maybe i should just take the moth, hm.

Yes - if you trade it away you get the Deed back. You can trade it away/get it back as many times as you want, I suppose!
^ Yeah, that's true.

The Merchant Cruiser is wonderful. It's surprisingly slim compared to the Frigate and Dreadnaught (and presumably the Yacht, which I haven't actually acquired yet), which means it at least feels more maneuverable. And all that lovely, lovely cargo space...

Of course, the lack of a Forward slot means killing things takes at least twice as long, if not more.

if only the merchant ship had a forward it would be perfect... And yeah i tested the yacht a little and it was quite unwieldy.
Oh well.. i think i'll try the most expensive ship.. though i dont get why it has less hold.

The Dreadnaught is useful if you're trying to found your own colony because it can carry up to 40 crew. The Fulgent Impellor is good to have not only for its speed but its +50% fuel efficiency; less fuel you carry around, the more you can stow other things.

The game gets easy with the Dreadnaught. As soon as I got it, together with Memento Mori, every zee beast was a piece of cake... A lorn-fluke needs about 15 sec without getting hit once. Mt Nomad was like 30 seconds without getting hit once...
And with the Fulgent Impeller and the thing for suppression you can cross the map with like 2-3 supplies. You need a little bit more fuel but get less terror and fuel is still cheaper than supplies.

Personally I hate the Dreadnought.

-25 Veils is quite a penalty, especially since Veils is used in all those "sneak by, or get caught and face harsh consquences!"-checks.

Yeah thats pretty much why im hesitating with the dreadnought... i like my veils...
I think im going to make myself a little mod that does a couple things involving ships and the curators quest.
The first is to make the steamship better by doing the following: reduce the +10 stat bonuses to +5, increase the hold to 90, increase hull to 350, and add aft and forward slots. Im also going to try to change the moth mascot to +7 to the 3 stats and -7 to hearts, and also have it add 25 to hull (it weaves magic strengthening material in your ships structure or something)... My reasoning is because IMO the curator quest is the toughest in the game.. and i know theres options.. but you could end up giving away stuff like the eyeless skull, the blue scintallack and the eater of names figurehead... for a so-so mascot or a ship thats just ok.

The second area i want to change is to create 2 equipable shop items in london. One for 1000 echoes that increases cargo by 10, and one for 3250 echoes that increases cargo by 25. Im thinking maybe having them equip to the bridge.. some sort of storage compartments.
