I thought Full Power was an on/off toggle and kept desperately pressing it in order to stop being at full power. This did not work.
I had been regularly resting in London to cure wounds etc., and then met a lass and had a child. Only, I didn't notice that the option to spend time with my family didn't also cure wounds... as a result, I didn't realize I had 2 wounds.
The game was going well. After losing six captains to starvation, deprivation, lack of fuel, zeemonsters, etc. I finally had enough to afford a merchant cruiser, I had a Scion, and I was ready to start working towards a better engine. However, while exploring Frostfound, I put my hands on something I shouldn't have, and received Salt's Curse for my troubles. I had some money lying around, so I decided to try a Sunlight run to the Isle of Cats to raise the money to lift the curse. Unfortunately, I didn't plan it very well, and ended up completely broke, ~20 filled boxes of sunlight in the hold, without enough fuel to reach the Isle of Cats... or anywhere except London.
I pulled into Mutton Island to try and get some fuel from the random shipwreck that can be found there... no luck. With 0 fuel and 0 supplies remaining, I surrendered to Fate and sailed for London... ran out of fuel and savescummed. Tried again. Ran out of fuel and savescummed. Finally barely made it with hunger nearly at max (actually might have eaten a few crew members...), only to lose my Scion.
I looked at the Bruiser's offer for sunlight but it seemed sketchy... I had enough fuel and money from port reports to make it to the Isle of Cats, and I knew they paid well. At some point I also grabbed some candles.
On the way to the Isle of Cats, I decided I wanted to explore Godfall. After all I had plenty of crew and plenty of candles, what could be the harm? So with negligible echoes on hand (the majority of my wealth being locked up in the hold), I descended with my crew into the bowels of Godfall. One failed stat test later, and I acquired a wound, with the ominous description "You are mortally wounded." But... I didn't die? Ah must just be at 2 wounds, I thought. Finally we reached the inner chamber of Godfall, and found there more questions than answers... but plenty of valuable items to sell in London.
We returned in victory to port... and I promptly died.
This is the one and only time, so far at least, I have resorted to save editing to avoid death.
How did you manage to find a pirate at frostfound that brought you home? Did you lose anything?
It is now my 11th captain. Today I survived a mutiny with 43 iron to fight the murderers and then got 6 attribute bonus at Gaider's Mourn. Im so lucky I even got some celebration. It's a terrible world... Terrible...
If I'd been stuck at Frostfound, things would have been markedly different, since the SAY action there is guaranteed to give fuel and supplies.
As you can probably imagine, I was really struggling with terror by the last leg of this trip. Several times my terror was above 95, got 2 wounds from L iL, and through some lucked out event and shore leaves, I managed to keep it around 90. Just outside of the Iron Republic, I finally encounted a Glorious Dreadnaught. That sob must have hit me with 5 cannons at the same time, and took my hull down from 45 to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ 1. After I fullpowered out of there, my luck finally ran out. The engine exploded, and took out 2 of my last 5 zailors.
I was limping back to Fallen London, praying to all three gods. Zeemonsters almost got me several times, but I was careful. Just as I was sailing past Mutton Island, I got hit by that random event with Drownies. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ drownies....takes 1 point away from my hull, and I was dead.
I almost punched my monitor...but such is the zee.
Fun story but yeah, it gets kinda tedious, starting over again. Wish there was an inheritance thing for the cargo or ship.
