You will know when you need an Element of Dawn and should only buy it then. It has no efficient use other than that.
I also can't see the point in ever buying a Mountain-Sherd. They are items you sell for a profit, but should generally not sell directly for Echoes but instead in Irem for Parabola-Linen. Another (less profitable) option is to convert it into a Captivating Treasure by right clicking it in the hold.
Slight correction. There are two storylines that you can use a Mountain-Sherd for, but there are at least two storylines where you can get one by finishing the storyline, so if possible, get it through a story rather than by buying it. They're way overpriced.
So, I presume the Mountain Sherd is one-use, and assume the same about the Element of Dawn (if you were to acquire one. It is quite hard to get).
As for farming? No clue. I happened to pass by Mt. Nomad once and immediately steered clear. It has more hp than any other creature I've encountered so far (35ish hrs in). No idea what the drops are or if it's worth it to kill, but I probably won't try until a quest tells me to. Farming monster drops is not a viable method of making money, in my experience.
But yes, they are both quest-related. The wiki is barebones but has more information, too.
Yes, they're one time use items.
They have only one use and are completely not worth it for those summons unless, for some reason, you really really need that particular monster. Or you need that item (Mountain-Sherd). It's a complete waste to use these items on a summon.
Sure do it if you're in a hurry and you're rich. I spam F everywhere and that's a ridiculous waste of fuel.
LUDICROUS SPEED! GO!
Then I stopped when warping at light speeds glitched me out of the map since going 100 times the base speed zoomed the map out until I could see half the Underzea.
Now I just use the Avid Suppressor and the Impeller/Serpentine
Fuel efficient, maybe, but you can only have either the Milebreaker or the Suppressor, and without the Suppressor, that engine is just going to explode.
It's a wonderful idea with the Suppressor, so long as you have money to burn, which you're literally doing. Zipping along like a speedboat is awesome.
