Es mejor dejar por ejemplo Stonyland, Que traducirlo por Pedregoso/Pedregosa. (Esto no es más que un ejemplo de traducción). Porque luego si alguien lo juega en inglés y en español, no va a saber que monstruos o que localizaciones son porque van a estar acostumbrados a verlas en inglés.

I actually use an online json editor, because notepad++ can't handle the bigger files without lag, so I copy smaller fragments into this online editor (which also has the advantage of highlighting the translatable strings), translate the fragment and paste it back in place into the whole file in notepad++. Going piece by piece and testing after pasting each batch of text also helps narrow down any errors like a missing quote mark or bracket.
There's a Russian translation floating around that you can use to check exactly which files and which parts of the files you need to translate and which you shouldn't touch (mostly, the texts between quote marks after certain keywords like "Name", "Teaser" and "Description" and a few others for different files), at least until you get used to the syntax and can figure it out as you go.
The folders and json files with strings in need of translation are

That's the easy (and longest) part. But there are a fair number of strings that are not included in the json files (menus, log messages, loading screens...), and for those you need to edit two of the core game files in the main game directory (Program Files/Steam/steamapps/common/SunlessSea/Sunless Sea_data/Managed): thos file sare SunlessGame.dll and FailbetterCore.dll. You need a software that can open and edit dll files, I use dnSpy, and then it's a question of searching for the strings you need and pray that you don't break the game editing them (back-ups are essential this time, of course, because you're tampering with the core of the game).
Still some of the menus and a few other bits and pieces aren't in the dll files either, and for those I still haven't found a solution. I've been able to locate at least some of them in the asset files, but so far I haven't found a way to edit them succesfully.
I wish I could be more specific, but I started doing this on a whim with no method and I didn't take notes of the process.,Iif I had to start afresh, i'd have to re-learn a lot of it myself.
