Judgement Resonator Bug?
The Judgement Resonator lamp's description states that it does not limit your ability to hide, but turning it on clearly changes the range at which enemies can detect you. It's trivial to toggle it and watch enemies go from ? to !. Does anyone know if this is behavior expected, or has my game bugged?

It's done in term of other reflectors that decrase your... veils, if i remember correctly?

But the Withern Optical lamp also does not decrease your veils, and lacks the coloured text that indicates that it does not decrease your ability to hide.

In addition, said text is listed seperately from the block containing stat effects, which lists that the Resonator does not decrease your veils.

I think the point is, most of the other lamps that increase your Mirrors by more than 1, also decrease your Veils an equivalent amount. The two most expensive ones increase your Mirrors but do not penalize your Veils. That is what is meant by "does not not limit your ability to hide,"

I'm almost completely certain that it used to actually not affect enemies detecting you, regardless of stats it gives or takes away.

I'm pretty certain that a judgement resonator is supposed to let you have the lamp running without enemies spotting you. Thats how I remember it functioning anyways. I did a whole bunch of testing to see if I could figure out what exactly it did. Is it not doing that now? thats pretty bloody useless if so.

No, even the low-level lights that do not decrease Veils penalize your ability to hide. The Judgement Resonator and whatever the other one's called were supposed to, in addition to not decreasing your Veils, not penalize stealth attempts while they were illuminated.

It definitely used to work that way, or at least I remember it doing so. It's possible this change is intentional, as they removed the "Strange Energies" quality or w/e it was called from the two most powerful lamps in one of the recent updates.

No, the Obscure Energies was just a left over reference to the turn-based combat system they used to have so they took it off, it had nothing to do with the special properties I don't think.

The lamps affect your stats when you equip them. It has nothing to do with whether they are on or not.

It definitely used to. Last I played sunless sea before Zubmariner, having a Judgement resonator or a Speculative Consonator would preserve your "difficult to detect" status same as if you were to turn your lamp off normally. It doesnt seem to be working as such any longer, which is probably fine TBH as it was a little silly to be nearly invisible in a frigate. The in-game text should probably be altered if this ins't a bug, but we'll see what the devs reply to the bug reports.

If it did in fact previously function as-written, then I think it's fair to say that the item is bugged. Either it is no longer working as intended and needs to be fixed, or has since been changed by design and needs its description brought into line with its new effects.

Well, submit bugreports to sunlesssea@failbettergames.com and we'll see what they say. Maybe the buff WAS tied to the Obscure Energies tag in some way and they forgot?

God this is gonna drive me nuts. I had a whole collection of images I took and labeled while I was testing if the resonator worked the way I suspected, but the hard drive they were on has since failed seeing as it burned along with the closet it was in.

I've submitted a bug report concerning the matter. Hopefully I'll hear back from them some time on Monday when business hours resume.
