DO NOT do port reports at Iron Republic
I got -2 hearts lol. Didnt realize until midgame how horrible it is to lose stat points and the port report only nets you 10 echoes in London.

You can gain or lose up to 2 hearts or pages. And you'll lose 1 iron everytime you do a port report at >15 days.
Apparently the reset to 1 is bugged, which is why it wasn't working for you to reset the stores.

Actually, you probably do want to make at least one Port Report at Iron Republic. Not just because of the Admiralty Favour either, there's something significantly different under certain conditions.

Far as resetting to 1, I *think* maybe you can push it over the edge with Allow Shore Leave to get the reset. Maybe.

You can reset it by going to the Market of Harms. Then it goes back to 1 or 5 (unless they have fixed this bug). Or you can just endlessly farm the special port report, but this will not reset Another Day.

Doesn't it average out to 0 in the long run?

Yes, it's -2 to +2. Absolutely even expected value. But you could get really lucky or really unlucky.

But if it equals out over time then on average you're at the same stats and down X port reports. Bad deal.

Why is it a bad deal if you equal it out and get to hand in port reports for a little extra money while going down that way for whatever reason? Also, you can eventually get A Port Report: Fallen London while doing the Iron Republic port reports, which you can sell at the Brass Embassy for a Lump of Blue Scintillack, the equivalent of 800 echoes.

I meant that avoiding them because of the stat change is a bad deal, hence being "down X port reports."

Well, for one, you will only temporarily have the stat lowered, and Hearts can be easily bumped up as several officers have their stat boosts linked to Hearts. Of course, Pages is a different thing entirely, but it is the hope that you will balance it out in short order. And I still do not really understand what you mean by "down X port reports". You are gaining them, not losing them.

He means if people were NOT doing the port reports due to the possibility of losing stats. They'd be "down those port reports" due to not gathering them due to that possibility.

That makes more sense, I had a terrible sleep last night so I am definitely not operating at full capacity.

Because like I said NOT taking port reports like OP recommended means you lose X port reports where X is the number of times you visit Iron Republic.

Nevertheless, I still feel that it is worth your while to grab the extra port reports. After all, like Skinny Pete said, it will in theory eventually even out. Perhaps you will even get extra lucky and end up with an extra two stats over what you had when you began the cycle of port reports.

You ALWAYS want to do Port Reports in the Iron Republic - when you get it to a certain level you can get get a continuous stream of special reports to take back to someone else in London and they pay you extremely well. You don't want to check out the market any more when you get to that level because that would reset the level back down.

It's Another Day: Iron Republic 15 or more, which you can either look at directly or infer from the fact the Expulsus is open for business, which because of a bug, is the only way to reset Another Day, and it only does that 30% of the time. The other 70% of the time Getting the Port Report is supposed to reset it, but it doesn't, and for some reason, they chose never to fix this bug.
