It does not count as a "win", thus, you don't get the achievement.
You must get a "win" ending ( going East, flying the dirigible, acomplishing your Ambition ).
And maybe doing the Zubmariner ending ( immortality but never did try, so, cannot tell ).
It must be purely related to ambitions and hidden ambitions then.
So not the dirigible, but the colony on Aestival should count.
It wasn't for nothing if you pursued a story that you found interesting. You're told at the start that your ambition is the winning goal, so don't be tricked by believing there's a shortcut.
Before you chose to pass beyond the gates with The Merchant Venturer, it stated "This will end your game, although your next character will retain something interesting." Your future captains will now have access to The Horizon Codex, which gives you an advantage for your next win attempt. If you choose the Correspondent Legacy your map will be retained, so completing your ambition shouldn't take too long if you were sailing for 50+ hours.
Apart from the fact that.
1: horizon is hardly a shortcut.
And 2: i also remember "Hidden" ambitions so how was i supposed to know this was not another?
I mean... was a simple "this wont count as a victory win condition" exclamer be so bad?
Went North with the venturer.
And it didn't count as a win.
It feels like a winning situation, but the game considers it not.
If you like the game, don't worry, you will feel great finding a way East, South, your father's bones or to settle in Aestival.
I sincerely hope you will be able to get the achievement following a quest that you like.
