i want to translate the game for myself
hey,

is there any option to translate this game for myself?
my knowledge of english is ok, but i want this game in my own language. that would be easier to understand everything, every connection of the individual stories

It is also important to consider that players want a translation but not all or them are commited or hae the knowledge to actually made a proper job.

Regarding slang and the language of the game the best you could do to not look into a dictionary is let the game to rest for a bit and make some research in texts about mid 1800 to early 1900 slang, its not easy to do but you won't break immersion having to stop every now an then looking for meanings of expressions.

I have been thinking of trying to translate the game into spanish but I need to finish it first, then make a decent glossary into slang (which I have investigated yet not archived), and then use a program in order to extract all the text section of the game to actually work with. Plus I woul need help from other translators to finish the project in a decent time frame.

Still I do want to translate the game but I think some of the essence of the game might be lost If I actually do it without dev support (game concept support, not financial) adding up to why the tranlation of sunless sea is such an interesting topic to discuss.

I have read post like this before but the time and effort needed to translate a game like this is very high: the game has thousands of words in the game, some of these words doesn't have a translation in other languages since they were created for the game (the colors of the zea for example), the time needed to translate all the game on your own would be pretty high.

I would like to have this game translated to my native language (spanish) but since I saw the effort, time, and work this task would involved I decided to improve my english instead of hoping for a tranlation.

PS: I'm takin a course in tranlation in one of the best universitites of my country and talking to a teacher about this topic she would recommend that in order to have a proper translation of this the translator should work with the devs in order to "remake" some terms in the translation. So there's the view of a professional in the topic too.

first, thanks for you fast and excellent answer.
that was my mind that it will not be easy.
i played it today and i like it, but so much text in english with an special "slang" it's just too hard to keep track. i dont want to look for some words in my dictionary. i just want to experience the whole atmosphere and when you have to look up something in a book, it takes the whole feeling. so many games with so much translation, like SOMA, or other games. so many ppl want a translation in diffrent languages. why nobody do anything? why i cant do it for myself? i take my time for this. =)

greetings W

p.s.: the colors of the zea.. that says all !.. i talking about some words they i dont know.

what ever, maybe the devs thinking about it that we have the permission to translate it ourselves.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.
