How random is the map generator?
Seriously. There are 12 tiles that are "fixed" and 24 that are not fixed. Supposedly.

Yet I've gone through 4 captains. And it's always almost the same.
- The top four never changed at all.
- The bottom five never changed at all.
- The far east only changed Chelonate and Scuttering Reached around once. The rest is the same.
- The close-to-home stuff always has Gaiders Mourn and Salt Lions in the same spots, the other three moved around once (not counting the empty one)
- Only the middle-east locations seem to be moving a lot.

I've not once used the cartographer (correspondent?) legacy.

On top of that, I thought that tiles could also have different types? Like Visage and Isle of cats could either be top/bottom or bottom/top, or scuttering reaches could have the harbor on the east or on the west side. Yet NOT ONE tile has changed. They're always in the same formation. Even the empty tiles are always the same ones.

Is it true that some tiles have higher chance for some islands to spawn than others? I mean, it's not a completley bad layout, but it's starting to become boring to have everything the same every time. Is there something wrong with my game? Becasue this seems really, REALLY unlikely to just have happened by chance (especially because the tiles themselves were also always the same).

When you take navigator legacy, the map remains the same, and also the tiles are mostly in the same areas (in other words, the 5 north tiles switch with eachother, as an exemple.)

Mmm, the bottom doesn't change, except for maybe the last collumn I think. The top can change the second to "second to last" collumns (Irem is always in the place). Rest is random.

Yeah with top-four I meant Palmerston, Frostfound, Crow and Chapel.
Bottom five are Isle of Cats/Visage, Fathomking, Uttershroom, Mangrove and [empty].
Those all stayed in the same place every single time, and not because of the legacy.
i know they have their own specific "areas", but they didn't move AT ALL. Every one was in exactly the same spot. Same for Aestival, Empire of Hands, Polythreme, Salt Lions and Gaider's Mourn. Not moved AT ALL, throughout 4 captains.

Bottom five aren't those. It's Dawn Machine/Grand Geode, Port Carnelian, Adam's Way and Varchas, these are the fixed ones.
But if the ones you mention didn't move, that's VERY weird.

I know that... =_= I'm talking about the moving sectors. You have "top row", "near home", "east", "far east" and "bottom area".

But it's weird indeed. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem. Maybe it has to do with some files or whatever? I dunno. I guess I'm gonna just play one more captain with this layout, then. XD At least Nuncio, Khan, Wisdom and Port Cecil moved. XD And Pigmote... (Like... who cares about pigmote... XD )

From what I understand and what I read on the wiki, there are a few map sections that always stay the same, for obvious reasons: London and some of the other places that are connected and connected to mainland stuff. Then the map is divided up into sections, those sections are what move around, however in each section are certain groups of locations. So, from what I gather, the sections move around when the map is generated and the locations associated with those sections move with them. For example: you will always find Khan's Shadow near Khan's Glory, even though the section they are associated with moves to different areas of the map when it is generated.

Yeah, this, right? http://i.imgur.com/xPhNtSn.jpg
I know it. To me, they didn't even move around inside those areas. But I guess maybe it's just horrible luck.

That's weird if they don't move, they are all in completely different positions (other than the fixed ones obviously) than my last map. I usually hit Frost Mourn before Mount Palmerston and your Salt Lions is way more north than mine usually is. It depends how many times you've had a new captain I guess? I noticed in my first 3-4 captains that they didn't change much maybe the more you progress and survive the longer they get chance to move?

It's also possible to set the map generation to static. You haven't modded anything have you?

Nope, modded nothing. Well, I finally have a map now that's significantly different, so I guess it was just dumb bad luck. Still, kinda weird 4 times. What are the chances. XD
