How good is Fallen London?
I like Sunless Sea and I'm thinking of playing Fallen London. Is it a good game?

I saw that it's free, does it have a lot of microtransactions or are they easily ignored?

I have not played it a lot but I enjoy it. It's a text-based game, kind of like a "choose your own adventure" on a timer, similar to gathering-type mobile games in its mechanic. I think both concepts blend well together. I don't care "waiting" for FL to refresh actions whereas i can't stand it for most games for which I need to gather this or that resource/currency to achieve maximum efficiency. The microtransactions in FL are completely optional but they are mainly but not exclusively tied to content. The game also periodically gets updates with new content quite often. I suggest trying it.

Runs like a charm on Android too -even older OS versions. Well worth a look, and of course bears the vaguely loony Failbetter trademarks as it should.

I tried the android app on my phone... it didn't go well. Very slow, missing images, probably because of old phone.
Very good(and I can say this as a player who never put any money into the game, I have been playing the game for over 2 years now and im not planning to stop).
Thanks. I will see if I can find time to give it a go.

As smartphone app (or just visiting the site from mobile) it's good enough to kill some time. If you ever read a 'Chose your own story' book, it's pretty much that.

Enjoyable without spending money. Personally i would drop a little money on it but a single 'story' costs about 10$ which seems unreasonably high - but then i never played a 'story' so i don't really know what it actually is.

So yeah, i would give it a try but don't expect a game like sunless sea.

I've been playing on and off for the last year or so. It's very enjoyable, the world-building and the writing quality are what you can expect if you've played Sunless Sea, but It becomes very grindy when you get to a certain point, in which you have to repeat the same few storilets over and over and over again in order to get your stats up and progress.

if you enjoy their writing and the weird, creepy world they've created, I think it's definitely worth spending some time in!
I personally prefer to play on my PC than with the mobile app, but I do use the app to play a little while on breaks at work.
As others have said, it does get pretty grindy at times. I blame this on the era in which the game was conceived and began.

Way too grindy for my liking. Only get a few scraps of story per set of time units. Probably more enjoyable if you can check it in your daily routine on a mobile device.
