Co-op patch / update / DLC
Given the game has now [predictably] become freeware, will the co-op that it was clearly designed to have (being and effective SR clone), be introduced? Or are they holding it back as a 'wait and see' / sequel?

I think it would be prudent for them to make this game co-op functional, given that sales would increase markedly (I, for one, would pick up two copies) and it would thereby facilitate further support for the IP in future (through increased sales / interest).

Otherwise, if they persist with this curious, obstinate tactic, and leave the game floundering as an open-world lonesome loser simulation, they risk the IP fading into the ether and, so, forever lost. ⚠

I highly doubt they are going to release an online mode for the game. I agree it would of been better as a multiplayer online game.

Can you name a triple A video game where the developers have patched in a co-op mode?

FFXV is what I know that does it. But it's not exactly in the story mode. They have their own co-op mode with their own character creator engine.

On the other hand, I think staff should pin a thread why this game can't have co-op simply because the game balance was designed to be a single player game.

Rest assured. This game is like Saints Row. It's hated, but it has a solid fanbase.

What you're doing now to this game with all that mockery and grim prediction of the game's future is exactly how people, especially GTA fans, treated Saints Row series.

*accidentally deleted my post* :steammocking:

Wasn't co-op added as a DLC, though? That's not the same as a simple patch.

I should have been more specific as to say "co-op campaign" which is generally what people are referring to when they ask if a game has co-op.

Regardless, I find it somewhat baffling the number of people asking about a co-op mode being patched into the game as if that's a common place thing with triple A titles or something that's easy to do. Not that something that hasn't typically been done can't or won't ever happen but rather if there was a game that was going to do that it's not going to be Agents of Mayhem that's the trend setter.

Lol "freeware" you sir are quite the funny one :steamfacepalm:
Even modders got Just Cause 2 and 3 to work with an ad hoc mulitplayer (another open-world franchise that curiously omitted the integral functionality)... And I'm talking about the devs doing it -- not a bunch of well-intentioned modders.

Modders added multiplayer not co-op, there's a big difference.

Modders have been adding multiplayer functionality to games for years now. Even the PC port of GTA3 had a multiplayer mod. Just Cause doing it wasn't anything new. What made the JC mod stand out was that it got endorsed by the devs which is a rarity.

Being able to have two players play through the story together is a lot more complicated than having multiple people connect together in a structureless environment.

It's not like it's some switch they can easily flip or a button they can press.

Also nobody ever takes into account the fact that maybe not a lot of people used co-op in the previous SR games. Volition can track those metrics and if it was only ever a small number of people it's not surprising that it's a feature that they dropped.
* Well, if you want to split pubic hairs, and for argument's sake, then let's say generic "multiplayer"can or will they add any multiplayer functionality to this game in the future? Or is what your see, what you get, period...?

Two players skewing about in the city would suffice and, indeed, be better than just one player doing it on their lonesome. Even if the progression were somehow 'paused', in order to facilitate it, that would be tolerable.

In fact, even a rung below actual multiplayer ― e.g., 'hot-swap' functionality between two connected control devices; so that two (or more) players could seamlessly jump between characters ― would be an improvement...

Well, I doubt anything like that will happen with AoM, but perhaps if people keep demanding it, maybe in AoM 2, they'll have coop.
If the the next game were to be made, and without co-op (again), some anthrax would sure have to be sent to the offending parties.

Just sayin'...

Wait so, you just threatened to send people anthrax just because you didn't get what you wanted in a VIDEO GAME? Jeez you people need to check into a shrink or something because there is something clearly wrong going on in your heads.

As the guy himself said, it's not "splitting hairs" there is actually a huge difference, there seem to be a very tiny minority, but enough people to be annoying, that truly think co-op = multiplayer and vice versa.

Proof that that is just not true, is obviously that steam has multiple tags including "co-op" and "multiplayer" seperately, Overwatch ? Multiplayer. Overwatch's Junkenstein's Revenge mode ? Now that was co-op.

The fine line is basically, that multiplayer is, has been and will always be referred to as PvP pretty much, while co-op is non-pvp only.

Some people just baffle me, i had someone on these forums argue with me because they literally called the shared contracts "multiplayer", and that there is no need for any actual multiplayer / co-op since we have that already. Like, what ? Some people man, some people lol.
