Does your PC meet the minimum system requirements? What are your specs?

do you have an error message when you start the game?
do you have a black screen ? or you stay in the Windows deskop ?
You have a laptop ?
do you have windows 7 ? 10 ?

no error message, no black screen, stays in windows desktop. Mine is a desktop PC, Windows 10 here. experiencing same problem

I just had the same issue a few minutes ago. I updated Steam and now it runs perfectly. So, update Steam and see if that works!

dumb question, but, is there a way to update steam through the UI? or do I just restart steam and open it again? because I recently did that and it didn't seem to prompt an update

Sorry but this doesn't really say anything. What graphics card do you have? If you don't know, do you have a model number for your computer?

Seen several of these threads and i kinda suspect it's people who are trying to run the game on cheap laptops with integrated graphics. If that is the case you are probably going to have to ask for a refund.

running a 770 GTX, intel 3.7 ghz 6 core processor, on an SSD. no cheap laptop here or integrated graphics

I'm on Windows 10, I figured out the problem but I don't know how to fix it. When I opened up task manager, it was only opening up in background processes which meant it wasn't showing up on the screen. I am still unsure how to move it to apps. The refund for the game was accepted there so I wouldn't be able to figure that out even if I hadn't given up at this point.

I figured out how to fix it. You need to reinstall (or install period) the 2010 windows runtime distributables. This has fixed my issue and hopefully will fix yours as well.

I learned it by attempting to launch it through the common folder and it giving me a missing .dll error, one I have seen before.

If that actually fixes it then its a mistake from the developers to not include that in the game installation.

i've noticed a lot of games now-a-days don't include a DX and windows redistrutable installation with the game, whereas before they were commonplace. i do not know why.
