INSIDE
Will inside become a VR game?
Hello, this game would be amazing in Virtual reality.
Do you have any plans for this?
I just started a thread in Reddit about it:

It's so fixed cam game that developers even locked its aspect rate, I see no way of them doing VR.

How would you VR some 2D sidescroller and why?
There isn't any game I actually *enjoyed* on VR. Virtually every VR-Game on steam is a stupid tech demo that you can play for 20 minutes before getting bored. Adr1ft was alright, but short and godawfully boring.

I'd love to see Firewatch as VR.

Lucky you, i got so sick from Adrift i had to stop after only minutes.
I can play a bit of Dirt Rally which is a really good game and also Chronos is pretty good.

For old times sake I also enjoyed Quake.
You can still have 2D to even a side scroller if you set cameral like Chronos, i just want to be more immersed with 3D sound and a sense of scale.

I would say why not? If anyone had played Lucky's Tale (Oculus VR title), there is part of the game which actually is a sidescroller with 3D graphics, and it worked quite well imho.

Most sidescroller games designed so that area that you leave is quickly deleted from memory to save resources and area that you're entering is loaded relatively shortly before entering. Also there's nothing behind camera.

What I've seen in Lucky's Tale video on youtube is that their engine fully renders 3D surroundings. It was designed to be that way from the beginning. It's not actually sidescroller game

Now this isn't a confirmation that INSIDE is going to be ported to VR by any means. But the temporal anti aliasing plugin[github.com] that playdead developed got an update[github.com] to support VR. So maybe there's hope.

So I wonder how this VR support from github is? I wouldn't want to buy the game if it doesn't work on my Vive.

I imagine the immersion factor within VR would be absolutely unmatched. No distraction from the environment or borders of the monitor.

It's just a free tool for any Unity project to use. It has nothing to do with INSIDE.

I completely agree with you Sean, even if this game ever gets an update to support VR. I'd probably still recommend people to play the 2D version first. I don't expect there to be a VR version any time soon, I just thought it would be nice to visit the world of INSIDE in VR after having played it normally first.

I watched a presentation by the devs today on how they achieved such a nice graphical style. The main way they've done this is by utilising the fact that the viewer has a very fixed view point, so lots of pixel perfect lighting and general fudging is done. All this would be lost in a true 3D envrironment, so no, I can't see a VR version happening. (They currently call it 2.5D)

I played it with Big Screen with a huge virtual screen up close. Not technically VR, but way more immersive than playing on a regular monitor.

The problem I have with theatre mode is that the resolution gets a lot lower compared to a regular screen. Still pretty cool though.

Up!

This would be awesome. Devs... any chance?

this game is a 3rd person sidescroller. I dont see how VR could add to the experience in any meaningful way.

3rd pearson games are awesome in VR! Astro Bot is one of the best reviewed PS4 game. Other great exemples are Moss, Chronos, HellBlade: Senuas Sacrifice, Edge of Nowhere, Pixel Ripped 1989, Lucky's Tale and Carly and the Reaperman: Escape from the Underworld.
