INSIDE

Possible link between LIMBO and INSIDE I haven't seen mentioned (spoilers for both games)
So, my week has been like this:

Wednesday: Completed LIMBO for the first time
Thursday: First playthrough of INSIDE
Friday: Second playthrough of INSIDE (to disable all the orbs)
Saturday: Played INSIDE to get the secret ending.

Only after this did I read through theories on the 2 games.

My first play of INSIDE, I didn't see many plot links to LIMBO. Some similar game mechanics in the puzzles, pipes, and a thematic link in that both feature a lone boy protagonist.

I realised there were more similarities the second time round: darts-wielding enemies and use of anti-gravity. But I completely missed a crucial link: the worm you pulled out of the pig. Never even crossed my mind that it was the same kind of worm in the first game; I just assumed it was the pig's tail, and it was a visual cue/warning that some of the pigs were still alive.

2nd time round, I also noticed that around the farm area, there was at least one broken down car with what I assumed was a bullet hole in the windscreen.

One of the leading theories of LIMBO is that the boy died in a car crash; thrown to the windscreen as symbolized by the boy crashing through the glass at the end.

I didn't see the connection when I first read the theory, but today it suddenly hit me! Could this be a canon link between the games? Or was it just a sign from the developers that they are aware of this theory?

Tl;dr: Major theory of LIMBO is that boy died from being thrown through a car windscreen in a car crash. Cars visible in INSIDE's background that have holes in the windscreens.

I thought the treehouse theory of limbo was the major one.

Nice theory.

But how about the tree house in LIMBO ?

Well, I don't remember seeing any treehouses in this game :steamhappy: Though I suppose the sequence where the kid falls while climbing the rope and "drowns" could be viewed as similar to falling from the treehouse ladder.
At the end of the game where the girl is waiting,........she is under a tree house ,and also the menu screen has that tree house.

I'm thinking that both games share the same world, but at either different times or places.

In LIMBO everything's possessed by the worms and humans have fallen back to trivial methods.
In INSIDE there's relatively modern computers and technology, and the world hasn't been consumed by the worms.

I can't conclude if I believe they exist at: different locations, at the same time, or same location, but different time. Either way, I believe they tell the same event.
everyone in limbo is dead, the story takes place in limbo.
So it,s the same universe but it may be that both INSIDE and LIMBO stories are happening simultaneously.

FWIW, the glass shattering in LIMBO really cemented the car crash theory for me, as well as a lot of "wheel-y" imagery, the swings in gravity (remember how when you were little and in a car, you could feel weightless?) and the factory aspects at the end.

So, this seems like some kind of possible link - almost certain about the worms, at least. Perhaps not in a direct manner, but more like a "different story, same characters" angle.
