After disabling Steam Cloud, the save file can be deleted to reset the count to zero, then it can be edited to match your previous count.
I LOVE YOU. I did what they recommended on the discussion you linked.
1st: disabled Steam Cloud for the game.
2nd: deleted levelgencompleteddata.save
3rd: entered the game and finished 1 game.
4th: Closed the game, backup the file just in case and then edited it with Hex Editor Neo as suggested in the discussion. Edited the 01 00 to 0c 0d (0xD0C = 3340 which is the last number I remembered completing).
5th: Launched the game and it now says 3340 puzzles completed.
6th: Re-enabled Steam Cloud for the game and tested it with my laptop, confirming the fix worked and Steam Cloud has now the correct file.
