activation key
i gifted the starter edition to a friend , yet when he start the game ubisoft connect asks for an activation key even tho the game was bought on steam , i seek help if anyone remember how to fix or go around that buggy usbisoft connect client it would be much apreciated
edit : logging with his account on my pc launches the game just fine , yet it requires an activation key when HE tries to launch it from his pc (even tho i have tried my steam verison on his pc and it worked for him) is this an ip related issue or something ?

If you are asked to provide a game key in either Ubisoft Connect PC or Steam, this could mean that the game had been redeemed on a different Ubisoft or Steam account than the one you are currently using.

To find the key for the main game:
• Choose the Games tab.
• Select the game tile.
• On the left hand side under Play or Download, choose Show key.
You will now be shown the key to activate the main game.

no dice? I'd suggest you contact ubisoft, or try to refund the game via steam.

he has only one account how does a key find its way into another person's account ?
ubisoft shenanigans
The first time I booted up the game it said the same to me, though I bought it for myself. It fixed itself after I closed the Ubisoft launcher and started it again.

Something that i have learned is that if i is his account on my pc the game works just fine , but it still wont work on his pc ( ps he can run the game just fine on his pc using my steam acc)

It links automatically when you launch the game. Then it is permanently linked and only support can unlink it, but there's no guarantee they will move any games.

If you get an authentication error then your game license is bound to a different Ubisoft account. If that happens it's likely there was an account already linked to that steam.

Only support would be able to assist any further than this.

I'd recommend refunding if he has less than 2hours on the game.

or try checking the steam forums... maybe someone else has had this issue before? https://steamcommunity.com/app/304390/discussions/1/3175603753259172983/

then i'd assume steam and ubisoft connect arent communicating properly on his pc for some reason. other than opening a ticket with steam & ubisoft, he could try to unlink his steam on the ubisoft linked accounts page, and then launch the game and log in upon ubisoft prompt. hope this helps, not much else i can think of.
