I have a Linux desktop and have been successfully running this game for quite a while on it now. On my desktop, the game will refuse to enter the main menu if any sort of overlay other than the Ubisoft Connect overlay is enabled. But after disabling Mangohud as well as the Steam overlay I could get in and play multiplayer smoothly.
I have tried the same trick on Steam deck but with no luck. I set "DISABLE_MANGOHUD=1" and "DISABLE_MANGOAPP=1" for the game to completely disable the performance overlay which Steam seems to enable by default on decks. I even disabled the Ubisoft Connect overlay, but it won't help. The game crushes in the same behavior as if there were overlays on my desktop.
I feel there might be some other overlay that is hooked in and making the game crash. The crash timing is exactly before the first 3D scene is loaded, so I strongly doubt that it has something to do with the graphic APIs (which overlays will intercept so causing problems).
This definitely is very close to actually working considering the fact that it is runnable on desktop, with successful reports from both NVidia and AMD systems. I might try collecting some logs next and report it to Valve's proton bug tracker.
Any other ideas and/or info on how to try this out next is appreciated.
Install the Proton EasyAntiCheat Runtime from the tools section of your Steam library. You might also need to update your launch options for For Honor to point to where EAC is installed if it can't find it, but seems like this might not be required anymore with the recent update.
Game's been working for me even before this update.
