The pirate character is really out of place
I have returned to the game after a long hiatus, I left around Jormungandrs release. Most of the new additions are great, some of the emotes and executions are a bit too... wacky but it's no big deal.

This pirate character though? It's really revolting to experience to the point that I would rather run to the opposite end of the map anytime it comes near me and leave duels instantly. I understand the use of ranged abilities in the 4v4 game modes but they have no place in actual combat, even if the pistol can only be used in melee range. Sure it might as well be any other unblockable and the game has other unrealistic aspects but there is a point when something like a flintlock hits you for next to no damage, repeatedly without being reloaded, that it completely ruins the immersion. Add to that the weird jankiness the character moves with and their overall appearance and boy I hate the pirate

A gun is what broke the realism. Not like... teleporting monks, fat guys healing sword wounds with hugs, 80 year old men dancing around like ballerinas, weapons that never even existed (unlike guns), or the literal Wyverns flying around on the maps this season.

Nah its the guns.

I do not like the dragons either haha but even those things can be ignored because they are not as in your face + they are an event. I understand a lot of people won't really care about realism at this point but comparing for honor now to Y1 (thematically anyway) it feels like I am playing a modded game, especially this character which just seems like it was fan made or something (are they still using mo cap?). It's lost a lot of the charm and grit to me and its kind of a f*ckfest now

games often change. For Honor's changes recently aren't all that bad, though thematically yes, the game is suffering.

I just want to point out, In actual history one of the most famous pirates was Zheng Yi Sao, SHE, yes SHE, was a pirate CAPTAIN of a very large fleet.

I'm not going to give you links, you'll need to do research for yourself. Though with your already blatant bigotry my guess is, you'll continue your knuckle dragging ways, bashing your head against a rock for entertainment.

I will leave you with this though

"The Red Flag Fleet under Ching Shih’s rule went undefeated, despite attempts by Qing dynasty officials, the Portuguese navy, and the East India Company to vanquish it. After three years of notoriety on the high seas, Ching Shih finally retired in 1810 by accepting an offer of amnesty from the Chinese government."

Due to here tactical and strategical skills after several (but particularly one massive battle) with established navies, SHE, not only defied the Qing dynasty, but made them give up chasing her and her crew forgiving all their crimes.

Good luck in your existence.

Dragon, yes - those are just a side event. What about the "replacement jutsu" that several characters have? What about the literal magic of the Hitokiri, cursing people with floating doll's heads and generating magical shields? Actually, scratch that. What about the Guardian and glowing blue eyes buff? Not to mention the various flourishes of hellfire and riches and underwater scenes.

For Honour may not be a high fantasy setting, but it very clearly is A fantasy setting. It's certainly not historically accurate, even ignoring the broadly stereotypical kingdoms of "Knights," "Vikings" and "Samurai." I'd call it "very low fantasy," personally, based on what I've seen.

The Pirate Queen doesn't really bother me, consequently. Although I will agree on one thing - they should not have given her a pistol shot on a melee combo. The pistol shot perk makes sense, but that pistol combo really does look quite goofy.

So Pirate using a gun at close range is weird but Kyoshin doing the helicopter with his swird isn't.

Ok.

The game has evolved over time, not much to say beyond that. Although realism complaints have always been silly because half of what I mentioned existed on release too.

Personally about 90% of my playtime is from duels and brawls so I have never really experienced anything immersion breaking there

Cry some more feminist :steamfacepalm: It looks like the lamest charactre in the game because it is unnaturaly clearly designed by some bearded modern feminist guy who doesnt care what belongs and what looks cool in the medieval setting.

Likely she was made because Ching Shih existed, which is why she speaks Cantonese, Warmonger likely exists because Joan de'arc existed, and Valk exists because Shield maidens existed. All of these existed around the same time frame the game encapsulates.
You'll notice the gun she uses is a black powder blunderbuss pistol. These are nods to people who know history. You may return to your rock.
broken garbage

Did ur parents tell u to believe everything u read on the internet? Sir if u think i live in a rock and u dont I will simply pray for you and the ignorance u are showing. Just know the natural primal aura of life back then is a reality none of us can be certain of. It is the only true and not the over glamoruized stuff people write and Alter for modern day money pop culture or politic reasons on the internet now. God bless sir and I hope you break free

I mean, you could believe that, or you could open a history book, or read anthropologist articles. We actually know a decent amount about the European dark age, I specify European and not nordic, or eastern, because only the crusaders were dumb enough to burn Alexandria a 3rd time. Everyone else kept some form of record. We know Shield Maidens existed because of Nordic burial mounds. since you mentioned "god", Joan de' Arc thought she heard the "voice of god" and lead the French armies on a largely successful take over of west Europe. We know that, because it was recorded.

I'm done with this conversation.
lmao

See this would make sense if the other guy wasn't literally correct. The devs confirmed Pirate is based off of Ching Shih the pirate queen in the reveal stream, and Valkyrie is well... based off of Valkyries if you couldn't tell. Only thing he's off on is Warmonger who's just based off of Apollyon from the story.

Yeah, was gonna' say - the Warmonger is literally just Appolyon from Story Mode. It's also why she's a Vanguard when the game hasn't added one of those... ever? She's ostensibly a modified Vanguard in the story. I'm not sure if they even got original audio, or if they cut together lines from her VA. She's the only character I'm aware of who speaks English in combat. She has a lot of "enough" and "stay here" lines.

I believe they brought back the Apollyon VA for Warmonger to get her voice lines.
