Using PS4 controller, but game shows Xbox buttons

I've tried turning all the controller configurations in big picture mode off resulting in the game not recognising the controller. I'm also not using any third party software (e.g. DS4) to connect it via bluetooth, although I will mention that the computer recognises it as just Wireless Controller under the Device Manager.

This drives me nuts cause in steam it recognises the controller as a PS4 thus using PS4 prompts, but the moment I play For Honour it defaults to Xbox.

Does anyone know how to make it so For Honour uses PS4 prompts instead of Xbox prompts?

I saw something similar in Warframe but haven't seen it in For Honor yet, I'll look again.

You're right, it's under User Interface > Controller Icon > PS4, but it doesn't change it for some reason, it stays the same...

Weird, try to wire your controller and see if it still happens.

Now that you mention it, I've just tried, and I can't change the prompts either, it's locked to Steam Prompts even though the setting says PS4 (I use steam controller support because it properly supports Triggers unlike native support).

It's like that with me as well, and I can't get around it. It's almost as if its being overwritten by something, maybe by the Steam settings.

I found it.

Steam > Library > Game (For Honour) > Edit Control Configuration

This will open a separate window showing the control configurations used in the game.

Click Square/X to browse the available control configurations made by other users. The system was using the Recommended/default setup which refers to the Steam Controller. This was what was forcing the game to use the incorrect prompts.

Navigate to the Community section and select the PS4 layout and it should fix the issue. You might have to go to User Interface > Controller Icon > PS4 in the game setting.
